Reflections by the Champion of the Horn
It was the hairy little Dwarf again, and the more I see of him (what there is of
him), the less I like him. Coarse, crude, pushy, bloodthirsty--well, he IS a former
Bloodgames participant, which tells you something about him right there! "Priest of
Mantor" my left little fingernail. Bah. Among many, many other things, he appears
to be illiterate, which no true priest would be.
Khora the Small and Annoyed in General
REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
And here we are again. Every time seems like an accomplishment, and a good one,
too. We're beating the odds on a regular basis here. AND we've got good company to
do it in.
Novgorodny Vir was going to do us a generic spy report, after descending on us
like a god, mind you. Do gods do generic spy reports? If they do any kind at all,
I'll bet you they're not generic. But here are a few gems of observation from him:
Zalmardarin carries his recognition points in his pocket. Bad plan, because it
really spoils the cut of your clothes.
The arena was "more crowded than usual" this time. Vir didn't say it, but the
answer was not far to seek--the cheerleaders. It isn't often I've seen a score of
women wear less and look better.
Some warrior Vir declines to name was seen "charging into immovable walls and
challenging dead trees." Oh yes? And just why did he conceal the name? Who's
paying him off? Or... is he making it up? For one thing, we don't HAVE any dead
trees around here. We keep this place CLEAN.
It's a sociability issue who avoids whom in the arena? I thought it was
tactics, or maybe strategy.
Vir assures us that Slytherin House is not harboring any incurable diseases.
Dark Toads apparently don't believe him. If sociability is the issue, anyway.
Deadbolt got the most challenges. Do you suppose he noticed?
And on and on with what Vir himself describes as "incessant prattle." Well, he
should know!
In a more specific vein, ah, not the one in your wrist, this is... this is a
mineral vein. A rich lode? Whatever. We had seventeen fights. Down one from last
time, and we didn't have 'em to spare. Get your warriors out there on the sands, you
managers! Eight challenge matches, of which three were TV challenges. We may not be
numerous, but we're choice. That's an excellent proportion of challenges, and three
TVs? Hot tomatoes! The longest fights seem to have been three minutes, which isn't
long, but in this weather....
And before I get down to telling you about the fights, or about the fighters, as
the case may be, let me remind you all to check out the.... Wait, what's this? The
donkey rides? Why should gladiators, managers, and fans want to go for donkey rides?
Well, if you brought your kids, send THEM to check out the donkey rides. Sheesh,
sometimes I wonder about this carnival business, but it DOES bring in the bucks, and
we should be getting the roof over the locker rooms fixed next week.
VINCENT CRABBE (74-3498) (26-17-2,80) of SLYTHERIN HOUSE fought UNEMPLOYED
PERSON (107-5) (0-0-0,70) of People Snatched Off the Street. VINCENT CRABBE
viciously subdued UNEMPLOYED PERSON in a popular 2 minute brutal brawl. Good going,
Vincent. We don't want a bunch of Unemployed Persons hanging around Lirin Kiv. It
makes us look too desperate.
GISELLA (74-2704) (19-11-0,53) of CHEYSULI & LIR fought TIRYA (46-3594) (27-40-
0,63) of SAND DANCERS. GISELLA was viciously subdued by TIRYA in an exciting 3
minute bloody fray. It's the guys who come for the mud wrestling. They get terribly
excited by a couple of women fighting each other. Bet they'd be singing out of the
other side of their mouths if the women turned on them! At the end of her fight,
Tirya demanded that there be male cheerleaders, as well. Equal time, she calls it.
I dunno, are we going to be able to find twenty men who'll come out in nothing but
loincloths and boots and jump around cheering inanely?
DAMORETH STENN (65-6105) (40-37-0,146) of SAND DANCERS fought CORT NIGHTJEWEL
(78-196) (52-76-0,149) of THE DRAGON FIST. DAMORETH STENN was overpowered by CORT
NIGHTJEWEL in a 1 minute one-sided duel. Stenn was heard to mutter about the
impropriety of allowing dragon fists to be used in matches between humans (or human
approximations). Sounds like sour grapes to me, but you never know. Nightjewel may
have to turn in his dragon fist and use human ones instead.
We pause to welcome the marching band from--there's a smudge on this program,
and I can't read the name of the town. Judging by the size and competence of the
band, I wouldn't recognize the town if I could read it. But they're definitely
enthusiastic. Let's give 'em a cheer and then get back to the fights.
TORYN TYL DAGEDA (74-2777) (61-61-4,170) of SAND DANCERS fought NIGHTCAP (74-
2745) (63-86-0,171) of DARKLINGS. TORYN TYL DAGEDA was beaten by NIGHTCAP in a 2
minute bloody conflict. A home-town match, and from the look of things, they were
there at the same time. Is there some secret grudge here? Some dark rivalry? You
can see that the Rirorni woman is a bloodthirsty wench, four kills! And Nightcap is
a gentle soul, so what led to this bloody conflict? Did Toryn kill somebody Nightcap
cherished?
TALON WARSMITH (99-101) (66-89-8,196) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought JAMMIES (74-
2829) (62-60-1,161) of DARKLINGS. TALON WARSMITH devastated JAMMIES in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute one-sided battle. Ah, here's Khora's "hairy little Dwarf." Not a
really valid statement, as it stands. All Dwarves are hairy, and he doesn't seem any
more so than the average. In which case, viewed as a Dwarf, he isn't particularly
hairy and should not be called so, yes? Or does she have other information not
available to the general public, hmm?
KYRLANIA (70-2327) (61-95-1,196) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought NIGHTFALL (74-2421)
(93-93-3,206) of DARKLINGS. KYRLANIA was luckily beaten by NIGHTFALL in a crowd
pleasing 2 minute bloody match. The luck, we presume, was Nightfall's. Unless
Kyrlania wants to lose. Who can tell? She may have her reasons.
A brief pause to acknowledge the formation flying of a group of pegasi from
Darkholm. Beautiful work, but it seems a rotten thing to do to a horse.
KING LOVE (40-3748) (24-24-2,198) of SUNNYLAND fought ZALMARDARIN (78-312) (47-
85-3,169) of THE DRAGON FIST. KING LOVE was overpowered by ZALMARDARIN in a popular
1 minute one-sided melee. Another one of those dragon fists! Is that why
Zalmardarin carries his points in his pocket? I can't see an obvious connection, but
that doesn't mean it isn't there.
CYLADIA (51-1122) (95-107-0,199) of SKAITHVARN fought ZALGOR PRIGG (82-15204)
(29-18-0,203) of MUTANT LEAGUE II. CYLADIA was defeated by ZALGOR PRIGG in a 2
minute fight. That's the trouble with cold hands, which Cyladia has repeatedly
assured us, back in the days when she talked, that she has. You can't keep a grip on
things: weapons, momentum, victory, all those things.
SMOLDER DARKSUN (78-513) (72-61-3,250) of THE DRAGON FIST fought BAT (74-2742)
(76-74-1,196) of DARKLINGS. SMOLDER DARKSUN was defeated by BAT in a 2 minute
gruesome duel. Gruesome, eh? I'm surprised there's no comment about how much the
fans loved it. They really seem to go for gruesome. Somebody through sand on
Darksun to stop him smoldering, and let's move on to the half-time show and the
challenge matches.
Ah, for half-time this week, we have the Retired Gladiators Sword Dancing
Society putting on a performance of expert sword dancing and juggling. Listen to the
crowd scream. They want blood. Since this isnt a fight, they must be hoping
somebody will put a foot wrong and skewer his partner in the dance. What a thing!
And while you're waiting for a disaster to happen, note that the concessionaires are
circulating with hot fried pies, cold beer, and sausages "inna bun."
GREGORY GOYLE (74-3497) (22-20-1,67) of SLYTHERIN HOUSE challenged THOMAS (82-
14150) (6-9-0,68) of TOADS OF KRONDUR II. Up 1. GREGORY GOYLE vanquished THOMAS in
an action packed 1 minute uneven Challenge duel. Ah, yes, we all remember Gregory,
pulls wings off flies, plays mumbledy-peg with toads.... A mere vanquishment is
extraordinarily restrained of him.
WAIS (65-6447) (18-25-0,58) of DARK TOADS challenged DARLINA (74-2995) (32-25-
2,68) of SAND DANCERS. Up 10. WAIS was handily defeated by DARLINA in a 1 minute
uneven Challenge fight. It's amazing the way Darlina clings to that winning record.
Bad thing to do, kid, because eventually it'll get you inducted. If you hang onto it
that long, of course. If not... no problem.
UHLEK (38-4234) (16-5-2,94) of DARK TOADS challenged THE QUICKLING (70-1669)
(49-119-2,149) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 55. UHLEK was devastated by THE QUICKLING in
a 1 minute mismatched Challenge match. They tell me Delarquans are crazy, and this
must be proof of it. But it was a good try, Uhlek. I'm mostly just surprised that
Quickling managed to finish the fight in one minute. He's a slow old thing,
sometimes.
TOM RIDDLE (74-3501) (28-14-2,179) of SLYTHERIN HOUSE challenged TAIRIKIA (51-
4247) (70-75-0,185) of SAND DANCERS. Up 6. TOM RIDDLE was bested by TAIRIKIA in a
popular 1 minute Challenge duel. Is this a substantiation of the rumor that Rirorni
sit around the campfire at night swapping riddles? Or just that graduates of
Tricorus are nasty-tempered.
TREMERE (9-4915) (35-12-0,179) of DARK TOADS challenged DARKMOON BLACKFELL (75-
862) (86-69-3,202) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 23. TREMERE was overpowered by DARKMOON
BLACKFELL in a 1 minute one-sided Challenge fight. Yes, well, some days are like
that, Tremere. And though I'm sure you miss the glory of the undefeated record you
brought to Lirin Kiv, look at the bright side: you're no longer such a tempting
target.
One last break while we all sneer gently toward Darkholm and Desiree, who
doesn't believe we have real stands here. She semms to have gotten the idea--which
she's been spreading--that we just have some temporary bleachers. What does she
know, eh? A Delarquan chauvinist.
And now for the Tourney Victors:
DRACO MALFOY (74-3500) (23-10-1,102) of SLYTHERIN HOUSE TV challenged VALLANT
(38-4151) (36-15-2,178) of BLENDING ENTHRONED. Up 76. DRACO MALFOY demolished
VALLANT in a crowd pleasing 1 minute uneven Challenge fight. Oooooh, that's gotta
smart, Vallant. But you asked for it, standing there looking like a target for a
young hotshot fresh from the tourney. Pull up your socks, boy, and have back at him!
And my congratulations to Draco on his tourney victory.
WINSTON (75-2600) (47-24-0,173) of DARK TOADS TV challenged DEADBOLT (70-1664)
(76-99-2,210) of SCARLET KNIGHTS. Up 37. WINSTON unbelievably bested DEADBOLT in an
action packed 3 minute Challenge battle. Hey, believe it! Deadbolt was, so to
speak, dead in the water on that one. And congratulations to Winston on his tourney
victor status.
Before going on to the title match, I would like to take this public place to
thank both TigToad and Rillion for rejoining us in the personals. We've missed you.
We're glad to have you back. And that doesn't even include the TVs you have both
brought to this select, intimate arena. Hail, and similar sentiments.
For the title, a TV challenge! That's really going for it. SHYLOCK (75-2602)
(38-34-1,222) of DARK TOADS TV challenged KHORA THE SMALL (78-519) (112-136-3,231) of
SAND DANCERS. Up 9. I didn't realize you were so close on her heels, Shylock!
SHYLOCK was devastated by KHORA THE SMALL in a 1 minute Challenge Title fight. A
good try, and perhaps Khora will be, ahem, kind to you afterward?

THE DEAD W L K TEAM NAME SLAIN BY TURN
PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE
Li Dan -- Sorry for the lack of personal ads the last couple cycles. I would blame
the face to face, but honestly I was on a two week vacation and have followed it up
with having two weeks to get my classroom in order before the school year starts. I
have not yet received this turn, but I wanted to make sure I got this note in while I
was thinking about it. It looks like I will need to even put in a challenge or
two...after all, Shylock has a shiny new TV challenge (as does Winston) and he can
challenge for the Horn. Sorry Khora. -- TigToad
The Dark Toads are pleased to announce that they have brought glory to Lirin Kiv.
Shylock found himself a tournament victor in ADM and Winston managed similar glory
for himself, my team, and all of Lirin Kiv through his success in Freshmen. --
TigToad
King Love -- Now that is not a fair random match up. -- Winston
Hmm. A win against the Alastarian Deserter is still a win. Granted it lacks some of
the...glory, but I'll take it. -- Thomas
Khora -- I'm coming for the Horn. You might as well hand it over now. -- Shylock
I suppose we could say anything here and nobody would notice? A tempting
possibility....
Vincent Crabbe -- Didn't your mother ever tell you that your face might FREEZE that
way, and you could go though the rest of your life with a little-boy frown? It's
unbecoming and will tend to drive off the girls, which you will, sooner or later,
regret. -- Darlina
P.S. It's the kind of thing your best friends won't tell you, possibly because they
have the same problem and don't know what causes it or where it might lead. Or then
again, out of maliciousness, if that happens to be the kind of friends you've got.
P.P.S. I wonder how you'd be with tartar sauce?
P.P.P.S. Typical that you'd be a Karnhorn. Type casting.
Darkmoon Blackfell -- They told me I didn't have to write you a personal because,
like everybody else, you wouldn't notice, but I feel that I must. As one immigrant
to another, do you feel sure that the Adantri, who seem to thrive on endless
conversation--often pointless conversation--will continue to tolerate your silence?
-- Tairikia
Zalgor Prigg -- You didn't need to SAY something rude, you ARE something rude. And
very annoying, besides. But people who live on islands often are. -- Toryn tyl
Dageda, sensing the encroaching island-rudeness even in herself
Nightcap -- Why do you keep fighting when you care so little about it? -- Damoreth
Stenn and other Inquiring Minds would kinda like to know
Uhlek -- (shying back) The way you leaped out ululating was disconcerting. It put
me right off my stroke. -- Tirya
P.S. And it doesn't really seem a toadly thing to do anyway.
Larkin -- Some of us are listening even if we don't talk all the time. -- Rillion
Deadbolt -- Hey, no fair swinging back like that! -- Tom Riddle
Darlina -- Great fight! We always have an exciting time of it don't we? -- Vincent
Crabbe
Gisella -- You are definitely not a TV quality Freshman scum, yet. Please do not
waste my time like that in the future. You are slowing down my unstoppable march to
the top of this arena. Do not bother me again punk. -- Draco Malfoy
Wais -- Wow, I guess it is better to be lucky than good! -- Gregory Goyle
17 July 2004
I am currently trying to put together a favorites chart for AD warriors. I
desperately need help with this. What I need are style, favorite rhythm (ex.:
hi/low), favorite weapons, and tactics. What would be great is if you could send me
a copy of the invite with the warrior's name, id#, and arena blacked out. This way,
I can verify that this is an actual warrior. Minis will work, too!
For those interested, I have both a challenge style vs. style and a match-up style
vs. style chart. There's about 250 fights calculated in these charts, and I'll be
happy to send a copy to anyone who asks. You can contact me (if you're a free world
player) at: Rick Stringer, Merit/East, SCI, P.O. Box 500, Georgetown, DE 19947-0500.
If you're in prison, just send a diplo to: Baphomet, Mgr. Knights Templar (568), DM
#47--North Fork. (I also have a lot of other charts and info for anyone who wants
it.) Thanks!
30 July 2004
The total number of fights calculated was reported as 250 fights. This is a
misprint. It should have read "over 2,500 fights." -- Baphomet

FACE-TO-FACE XXXIV
Our next Winter Face-to-Face will be held on Martin Luther King weekend, Friday
through Sunday, 14-16 January 2005, at the Embassy Suites in Tempe, Arizona (4400 S
Rural Rd--this is the same hotel as last year). Room rates are $139.00 per night,
1-4 occupancy, which includes breakfast. The rooms are blocked. The reservations
number is 480-897-7444; tell them you're with the "Reality Simulations Face to Face
Convention" block. Our room block will be released in mid-December, so please make
sure you reserve your room before then!
Room rates include a full cooked-to-order breakfast and a complimentary two-hour
manager's reception. There is a free shuttle to the airport, as well as free parking.
The hotel is located down the freeway in Tempe. All rooms have high speed internet
(for an extra charge). There is a fitness center, jacuzzi, and pool, and of course a
bar and Mexican restaurant inside the hotel. And there's Denny's right across the
street. Look for transportation info in the tournament information sheet.
The tournament information sheet/strategy sheet should be out sometime in late
November/early December.
If you haven't been to a Face-to-Face before, you're overdue. If you have,
you'll be back. Don't miss this one, it'll be a blast! See you there!
