Thomas of Krondur stared at the pillar of fire for several minutes, then
deliberately turned away from the window, shaking off the effects of that uncanny
sight. He pulled a curtain shut and guided Khora back toward the fireside chairs.
"Do you think that's an effect of... the weather?" As Thomas heard himself utter the
euphemism, he grimaced. He was a Lord Protector, one of a group considered by others
to be immortal and invincible, and he couldn't bring himself to say out loud that he
thought an old woman was losing her grip on reality. But Sheila Greywand wasn't just
any "old woman," and while her grip on sanity might be shaky, her grip on her powers
of magic was still-- Or was it? That was the problem, when you got down to it. Had
Sheila Greywand lost her grip on the powers she had commanded for so long? If she
hadn't, if she was still firmly in control, then what the HECK did she think she was
doing? There had been so much power running wild, so many instances of uncontrolled
magic, and so many unplanned effects on the Isle in the last year that it was
impossible to believe that anyone was in control. If there was a pattern, and being
uninfluenced by emotion, golems were good at finding patterns, it was too subtle for
him to detect. And what did it matter, anyway? Which would be worse: Sheila
Greywand in full control but insane, or Sheila Greywand sane but with no control over
the magic which permeated the Isle? Neither possibility was encouraging.
Thomas jerked his thoughts back to the present, and in truth they had not been
gone for long; golems could think very fast when they wanted to. He sat down in the
chair he'd occupied before and looked across at Khora. She looked different,
somehow. Less human, perhaps. There was that in her face that reminded him of the
rumors that she was a "fox-woman," whatever the Adantri meant by that. Something
like an Aruaki werecat? "Do you think we should investigate... the weather?" A
corner of his mouth twitched as he used the euphemism again.
The look she gave him back was very firm. No question but that Khora was in
control of herself. "No. This is not the time for it." Khora's mouth curled into a
lovely sneer. "The weather... is inhospitable."
Thomas smiled briefly to acknowledge her quip, then sobered. "Somebody has to
do something. And if we wait for somebody ELSE to do--"
Khora nodded. "If everybody waits for somebody to do a thing, in the end nobody
does it. But we shouldn't act without a plan."
"This is true. Let us make a plan, then."

THE GUARDIAN'S FORUM
Reflections by the Champion of the Horn
Larkin,
My apologies for not writing a column last turn. Immediately after defeating
what's her name, the small one, and capturing the Horn, that's what its called
right?, I made a mental note to myself to remember to write a Duelmaster's "duel2"er,
Champion's column. Unfortunately, after fulfilling my prophecy of becoming Champion
of the Horn, in exactly my sixth fight here in Lirin Kiv, my mates decided to throw a
party to celebrate Slytherin's triumph. Well unfortunately, I am not used to
drinking spirits and let's just say it was a very spirited celebration. Needless to
say when I awoke the next day, I did not even remember I was Champion of the Horn.
So I did not ever get around to that column due to having my memory of the previous
turn wiped clean. But have no fear on my account, I am certain to remain as Champion
of the Horn for many turns and will do my best to make sure in the future that I
remember to write a column. After all, I have never been known as someone that would
let an opportunity to tell everyone how great I am pass me by.
Champion of the Horn,
Draco Malfoy
REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
No challenges, no avoids, no personals, did anybody even remember that the
fights were today? Okay, Draco Malfoy wrote a column, and I salute him for it, but
he did that BEFORE the fights, days before.
So, twenty-two fights, no challenge matches. At all. Six were action packed
and four were exciting. Wow. Three standbys fought. Two fights tied for longest at
seven minutes each. This doesn't leave me a heck of a lot to talk about, but I'll
see what I can do. Thrills, chills, inuendo, and misinformation, coming up!
We started the day with: SNOW BLIND (65-5368) (6-2-0,20) of COLD DARK KNIGHTS
fought RIRORNI SOLDIER (107-3) (0-0-0,30) of Carnival Clowns. SNOW BLIND savagely
defeated RIRORNI SOLDIER in an action packed 2 minute gory fight. The Rirorni
Soldier wishes to protest his inclusion in the clowns, but his performance speaks for
itself. And Snow Blind, for someone who couldn't see what he was doing, was superb.
This is not, perhaps, the most fulsome praise you might look for, but if you wanted
fulsome, you wouldn't be reading a spy report.
WAIS (65-6447) (19-29-0,65) of DARK TOADS fought ALEX GRIFFIN (9-4856) (14-11-
1,48) of DREAM PARK. WAIS overpowered ALEX GRIFFIN in a 1 minute uneven fight. This
love Toad, jewel flashing from her forehead as she flung herself on her opponent--no,
no, not like that! With her sword well to the fore. Wais flung herself on her
opponent and demonstrated that dreams can become nightmares. Well done!
GISELLA (74-2704) (21-14-0,73) of CHEYSULI & LIR fought CAPTURED PIRATE KING
(107-2) (0-0-0,30) of Carnival Clowns. GISELLA slimly won victory over CAPTURED
PIRATE KING in a popular 7 minute contest. Now, I KNOW the Captured Pirate King is a
clown. Or at the least, a character from Comic Opera. Look at the way he dresses!
Did you ever see a REAL pirate dressed like that? Of course not. Actually, they
tell me that in private life--and I didn't even know he HAD a private life!--he's
called Casanova. That might explain why it took Gisella SEVEN minutes to win a slim
victory here. Dalliance on the sands. Spent all their time whispering sweet
nothings to each other. Infamous.
VINCENT CRABBE (74-3498) (30-18-2,86) of SLYTHERIN HOUSE fought TAMRISSA (38-
4153) (18-9-0,69) of BLENDING ENTHRONED. VINCENT CRABBE demolished TAMRISSA in an
action packed 1 minute uneven bout. Panty-raids, eh? Isn't Vincent a little YOUNG
for that kind of thing? Was he LED ON by Tamrissa? Tune in next cycle for the
continuation of this precocious behavior!
VELOXI (38-4233) (14-4-0,95) of BLENDING ENTHRONED fought GREGORY GOYLE (74-
3497) (23-24-1,52) of SLYTHERIN HOUSE. VELOXI beat GREGORY GOYLE in an action packed
4 minute fight. I do not, myself, believe that there was any serious blending
involved, at least, not in the case of Veloxi. There is a man whose name came from
the dregs and unpopped kernels at the bottom of the bowl. Some people claim that the
alphabetic abnormality gives Veloxi an edge. But does he need an edge? Granted, the
young Goyle (do his friends call him Gar?) is a bit of a twerp, but so what?
Everyone has his twerpish days. It's what you do with them that counts.
THE QUICKLING (70-1669) (51-122-2,119) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought DARLINA (74-
2995) (37-25-2,129) of SAND DANCERS. THE QUICKLING was overpowered by DARLINA in a 1
minute mismatched conflict. Some people feel sorry for the Quickling, and you can
see why: a record like that, not to mention losing to a Sand Dancer with a third as
many fights as he has. But I don't see that. I figure if the Quickling was good,
his manager would pay attention. He'd INSIST that his manager paid attention. Most
gladiators with skill and personality are, ah, hard to ignore. But you see how it
is.
ALLAH (13-2440) (16-10-0,131) of LOS ANGELES DODGERS fought THOMAS (82-14150)
(9-11-0,98) of TOADS OF KRONDUR II. ALLAH was beaten by THOMAS in a 2 minute match.
And who, I ask you, is this "Allah" who comes to us direct from the long-closed arena
of Dullens? I haven't seen him around before, and he's got a barbarous name. Just
as well, perhaps, that a Toad came along and turned him into a, er, maybe I'd better
not say that here. But it was ignominious. We like to do this to newcomers so that
they don't get swelled heads.
ENDER (65-4971) (39-37-0,177) of BATTLE SCHOOL fought ESSINA TYL VERN (75-2694)
(19-50-1,104) of SAND DANCERS. ENDER overpowered ESSINA TYL VERN in a 1 minute one-
sided match. Seems like I've haard that Essina came here at the suggestion of some
friend. All I can say to that is, whoever suggested it was no friend. Her sister
Rina, who was and is as straightforward as a corkscrew, would be a better choice.
Not that I want to see Rina tyl Vern around here again.
KYRLANIA (70-2327) (62-99-1,158) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought DAMORETH STENN (65-
6105) (42-40-0,165) of SAND DANCERS. KYRLANIA overpowered DAMORETH STENN in a crowd
pleasing 2 minute mismatched brawl. And Damoreth should blush with shame at the
loss. To an unarmed wrench! Er, wench. Not wrench. Although it may have been a
wrenching experience. You never know. Well, Damoreth knows, but he's too
embarrassed to talk about it.
SILVER SKY (65-4152) (36-20-1,173) of COLD DARK KNIGHTS fought UHLEK (38-4234)
(17-9-2,106) of DARK TOADS. SILVER SKY was bested by UHLEK in an action packed 2
minute duel. Now, if it had been a GOLDEN sky... might've been a different story.
Or not, as the case might be. What's the deal, Zalgor? Checking out possible
tourney warriors, or actually preparing to become a major presence here? Either way,
I'm not complaining, just curious. I'm a spy reporter, after all, and it's my JOB to
be curious. (Good thing.)
CORT NIGHTJEWEL (78-196) (55-78-0,187) of THE DRAGON FIST fought VERMICIOUS KNID
(107-30) (0-0-0,240) of Carnival Clowns. CORT NIGHTJEWEL was unbelievably bested by
VERMICIOUS KNID in a 3 minute fight. Unbelievable. Yep, that covers it. Who can
believe this, eh? Here's a warrior who was good enough to make it to the Isle, and
he goes and loses to a mere Knid! Sure, it took three minutes, but still.
TOM RIDDLE (74-3501) (31-16-2,199) of SLYTHERIN HOUSE fought SHYLOCK (75-2602)
(40-37-1,162) of DARK TOADS. TOM RIDDLE was demolished by SHYLOCK in a crowd
pleasing 1 minute one-sided brawl. Ah, here is where young Tom would have benefited
by the advice of older and wiser heads. Never start a riddle game with a toad,
especially a DARK toad. They know all the dirty answers. And if you haven't been
hit by the dirty answer to a riddle, at the hands of a dark toad, you haven't been
truly mortified. Give thanks.
CYLADIA (51-1122) (96-111-0,185) of SKAITHVARN fought TAIRIKIA (51-4247) (73-77-
0,196) of SAND DANCERS. CYLADIA devastated TAIRIKIA in an exciting 1 minute
mismatched conflict. I didn't really think Cyladia should have been allowed to carry
her chisel into the arena, but hey, if the arenamaster and the stewards passed it,
well, what do *I* know? But trying to chisel her initials on Tairikia's hide seems a
bit over the top. Just sign her armor next time, okay?
ZALGOR PRIGG (82-15204) (32-20-0,195) of MUTANT LEAGUE II fought JAMMIES (74-
2829) (62-65-1,163) of DARKLINGS. ZALGOR PRIGG overpowered JAMMIES in an exciting 1
minute one-sided fight. Okay, Jammies has more fights showing, but if you expect me
to believe that Zalgor Prigg doesn't have tourney fights, you're asking too much.
Why did Jammies win? Still... the trick with the tail of the nightshirt was amusing.
NIGHTCAP (74-2745) (66-88-0,185) of DARKLINGS fought VALLANT (38-4151) (38-18-
2,169) of BLENDING ENTHRONED.
NIGHTCAP was defeated by VALLANT in an exciting 2 minute gruesome fight.
BAT (74-2742) (78-77-1,184) of DARKLINGS fought KING LOVE (40-3748) (25-28-
2,171) of SUNNYLAND. BAT was vanquished by KING LOVE in an action packed 1 minute
uneven fight. Yes, well, maybe this was the day for strange weapons. I dunno what
that sort of club-like thing that King had is called. But it's peculiar, I gotta say
that. Almost a net sort of arrangement in the middle. For any opponent but a flying
bat, I just don't see it working, but then, it all depends on how viciously one uses
it. King Love can be mighty vicious when he puts his mind to it.
FACELESS KILLER (65-4853) (22-12-2,201) of REIGNING DOOM fought KHORA THE SMALL
(78-519) (116-137-3,205) of SAND DANCERS. FACELESS KILLER was handily defeated by
KHORA THE SMALL in a 1 minute uneven melee. You could asy, "One in the face for the
faceless one." Or then again, you could pass up the easy pun. Not that *I* will,
but when you have to right this stuff day in and day out for years, you never pass up
the easy puns. It's a dirty job, and you do it however you can.
DEADBOLT (70-1664) (79-101-2,195) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought TORYN TYL DAGEDA
(74-2777) (63-64-4,180) of SAND DANCERS. DEADBOLT outlasted TORYN TYL DAGEDA in a
crowd pleasing 7 minute gory brawl. Toryn couldn't last more than seven minutes?
What has that girl been DOING, carousing? It's a disgrace. Send her back to the
minor leagues!
SMOLDER DARKSUN (78-513) (75-63-3,224) of THE DRAGON FIST fought NIGHTFALL (74-
2421) (96-95-3,215) of DARKLINGS. SMOLDER DARKSUN was viciously subdued by NIGHTFALL
in a popular 4 minute bloody duel. They tell you night falls fast in the desert. Is
four minutes fast? But then again, Night didn't Fall, so the question may not arise,
except that I had to think of something to say here, and it isn't like either of
these warriors gives me much help.
TALON WARSMITH (99-101) (71-89-8,230) of SCARLET KNIGHTS fought ROBERTO LEATHAM
(65-6232) (30-30-1,212) of SPLIT INFINITY. TALON WARSMITH devastated ROBERTO LEATHAM
in an exciting 1 minute one-sided fight. Mantor! It's the hairy little killer
again. Somebody step on him before he tries to grab the Horn.
TREMERE (9-4915) (39-13-0,222) of DARK TOADS fought ZALMARDARIN (78-312) (49-88-
3,182) of THE DRAGON FIST. TREMERE handily defeated ZALMARDARIN in an action packed
1 minute one-sided match. A dragon may be a formidable foe, but the mere fist of a
dragon, wandering around by itself, is obviously another matter. It was a pleasure
to see an old foegy, or however that's spelled, lose to a warrior with only a third
as many fights showing. I love the upset victories, because it makes the bookies so
wrathy. They way they jump around, screaming and tearing their hair, is better than
a troop of mimes.
And the following random match for the Horn: DRACO MALFOY (74-3500) (28-10-
1,236) of SLYTHERIN HOUSE fought DARKMOON BLACKFELL (75-862) (90-70-3,220) of SCARLET
KNIGHTS. DRACO MALFOY was devastated by DARKMOON BLACKFELL in a 2 minute Title
fight. I was sorry to see this happen, as the odds of Blackfell writing a column are
right down there with those for the survival of snowballs in hell.

Youngblood's Three and Out Contest
I would like to take this time to announce and invite all managers to compete in what
I think will be an awesome contest. If you haven't ever TC'd at a tourney before,
here is your chance. The contest will start Wednesday, December 1, 2004, but a
chance will be given November 17 to dark arena, only, any warrior that you do not see
fit to run in the contest. So now that I have your attention, here are the rules
(like you didn't know they were coming sooner or later).
1. Any manager participating can enter one team, only.
2. No sandbagging whatsoever. (I will keep up with it, every turn.)
3. No teams or warriors will be allowed to run after contest starts.
4. All warriors will run until they lose three times, after three losses they are
eliminated.
5. If a warrior sits out a turn, they are accounted with a loss in the contest.
This is to keep warriors with winning records from sitting out until the end of
the contest.
6. If a warrior is killed during the contest, the replacement cannot enter the
contest.
7. If a warrior is killed, bloodfeuding is allowed, but only by a warrior that is
active in the contest.
8. If a warrior is run after being eliminated, the manager is disqualified from the
contest, no questions asked.
9. Challenges are legal, up or down.
10. Contest will keep going until 1 warrior is left without three losses, and that
warrior, of course, is accounted the winner.
11. All managers participating will be asked to purchase a rollup certificate, to be
awarded to the winners of the contest.
