Reflections by the Champion of the Horn
Delaware Run tried to submit a column this cycle, but Four of Spades had him
bound, gagged, wrapped in aluminum foil, buried to his neck in sand, and subjected to
continual readings of Vogon poetry. Apologies.

REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Some days the clerks in the Commission office amaze me. Came the Split, and
they hauled everyone from Storm Rock off to Talahya! I think they're jealous of our
relative autonomy out here. And I *hope* we've gotten everybody back who should be
here.
So, let's take a look at things. Biggest rise in the ranks: Lazy Lookout,
twenty-one points. Biggest drop: Arioch, twelve.
Shepherds were most avoided, and of those avoiding them, Mid Earth were doing it
the most.
It doesn't *look* like anyone was most challenged. Okay.
Fifteen fights with two standbys, and five challenges. I've heard, by the way,
that there's a movement afoot to get us our *own* standbys, so we don't have to
import them any longer. That would be good.
FAN ZHEN (81-1288) (18-10-1,88) of DARQUE AGES fought THE HYPHEN-DASH (42-4499)
(17-12-1,45) of COLOR ME SUAVE. FAN ZHEN devastated THE HYPHEN-DASH in a 1 minute
uneven duel. It was a good question asked of Hyphen-Dash today: punctuation, or
footrace? Inquiring minds want to know.
GAD (18-9239) (28-21-1,71) of SHEPHERDS fought JELLO KNUCKLES (42-4554) (30-10-
0,33) of COLOR ME SUAVE. GAD viciously subdued JELLO KNUCKLES in an action packed 3
minute gory fight. Anybody could've told Knuckles that his choice of jello for the
day (lime) was a lemon.
THE BRIDE (45-4180) (26-10-1,108) of DARQUE FORCES fought ZEVRAN (81-1258) (22-
28-1,98) of OF WOLF AND MAN. THE BRIDE devastated ZEVRAN in a 1 minute mismatched
bout. Some women will do anything to catch a man.
LAZY LOOKOUT (42-4504) (32-26-1,126) of DUNGEON CELL fought RAGGEDY ANN (45-
4148) (33-10-0,127) of DARQUE FORCES. LAZY LOOKOUT viciously subdued RAGGEDY ANN in
an exciting 3 minute brutal contest. Lazy got the most points for this win of
anybody fighting here today. Darned if I know why; it looked even to me.
FROO-FROO (18-9589) (40-31-3,148) of CENTER FOR OLDS fought EVANGELION (59-2340)
(20-17-1,129) of IMPROVED ILLUSION. FROO-FROO demolished EVANGELION in a 1 minute
mismatched match. It's all that marabou, confuses all opponents the way it flutters.
Well, and also draws stares of blank amazement: it isn't often you see armor trimmed
with pink marabou.
PLANKTON (18-9748) (27-27-2,121) of SEA DOGS fought VIRGINIA, NO SANTA (65-6623)
(25-13-1,117) of GOT IT FOR CHRISTMAS. PLANKTON overcame VIRGINIA, NO SANTA in a 2
minute gory bout. Timely.
GRATH (81-581) (31-14-1,177) of OF WOLF AND MAN fought PINCH BLISTER (18-9859)
(30-22-0,115) of CENTER FOR OLDS. GRATH viciously subdued PINCH BLISTER in a popular
5 minute brutal fight. Aha! Got that fly, finally! Er, sorry, a distraction.
Everyone should look out for Pinch, who held the higher-ranked Grath to FIVE minutes
of hard fighting before surrendering.
FOUR OF SPADES (42-4234) (63-41-2,190) of COLOR ME SUAVE fought ARENAMASTER
SANDAVOL (107-28) (0-0-0,200) of Fine Imported Standbys. FOUR OF SPADES vanquished
ARENAMASTER SANDAVOL in a popular 1 minute uneven duel. This Four is getting some,
ah, extreme notions here. But if Sandoval couldn't talk him down, well, I guess
we'll just have to live with them.
MOIST TOWELETTE (42-4430) (49-40-4,224) of COLOR ME SUAVE fought RIRORNI COOK
(107-24) (0-0-0,181) of Fine Imported Standbys. MOIST TOWELETTE devastated RIRORNI
COOK in a 1 minute one-sided competition. No surprise, as Rirorni Cooks aren't much
given to the "clean hands" school of kitchen work. I'd be surprised if any one of
'em has an idea what to do with a moist towelette. And since the Towelette had some
very clear ideas what to do with THEM, well... as you see.
The challenges:
LHISSON (29-5456) (28-24-0,78) of MID EARTH challenged 1977 AMC MATADOR (42-
4116) (39-29-0,86) of COLOR ME SUAVE. Up 8. LHISSON was bested by 1977 AMC MATADOR
in a 2 minute Challenge brawl. Run down in the streets of our boomtown! We could
probably use a speed limit here.
JEHLCH (29-5528) (23-19-2,96) of MID EARTH challenged ALMOST PRETTY (42-4496)
(37-29-0,112) of COLOR ME SUAVE. Up 16. JEHLCH was bested by ALMOST PRETTY in a
popular 3 minute brutal Challenge fight. Amazing, Almost looks nearly... um, amazing
when liberally splashed with blood. Even more than almost.
JOSH (18-9109) (21-7-0,99) of SHEPHERDS challenged DOMINATRIX (81-583) (26-16-
3,127) of OF WOLF AND MAN. Up 28. JOSH was overpowered by DOMINATRIX in a 1 minute
mismatched Challenge duel. The question is, did Josh enjoy this experience?
HEINRIK (81-1257) (28-24-1,150) of CLAN LONGBEARD challenged ARIOCH (81-996)
(27-20-3,166) of OF WOLF AND MAN. Up 16. HEINRIK viciously subdued ARIOCH in an
action packed 1 minute brutal Challenge battle. This was the fight that caused
Arioch to drop like an out-of-season melon.
RINDEL (29-5346) (29-21-0,161) of MID EARTH challenged TING-TING (81-776) (31-
16-0,165) of FUCHI OWNED. Up 4. RINDEL was bested by TING-TING in a crowd pleasing
2 minute Challenge fight. Could I say that Ting-Ting rang his bell?
For the title:
DELAWARE RUN (42-4400) (76-54-5,260) of COLOR ME SUAVE fought SHINY PENNY (32-
3789) (59-109-2,181) of FOUND IN THE SAND. DELAWARE RUN vanquished SHINY PENNY in an
exciting 1 minute mismatched Title fight. Good work, Delaware. I'll send you a cake
with a dagger baked into it so you can get loose and do your own column, okay?

BLOODGAMES at the WINTER FACE-TO-FACE
Back by popular demand, we will be having Bloodgames at the Winter FTF! For those of
you who always wanted the chance to manage the last warrior standing alive upon the
arena sands, your day has come. At the end of the ten turns, even though several
warriors, bruised and scarred, MAY yet live, only one will be crowned Champion of the
Bloodgames. And in this game mere survival counts for little. A great general once
said, "The object of battle is not to die for your cause, but to make your enemy die
for his." This general would have greatly enjoyed the Duelmasters Bloodgames. There
will be two different arenas:
DM 96: for Face-to-Face attendees, with turn-by-turn strategies, and
DM 97: for all managers, with one strategy for all ten rounds
Gameplay proceeds according to standard DM rules, except for a few notable exceptions:
BLOODGAMES ROLLUP -- Your Bloodgames team is ten warriors, one of each fighting
style, each warrior designed from scratch! (All is 84 points, 3-21, as usual.)
DEATH -- As the name implies, the Bloodgames will leave the arena sands somewhat darker
before they're over. It's a dangerous sport intended only for the tough and spirited.
The Arenamaster will be less likely to intercede on behalf of a dying warrior. Even
at a 1 kill desire, kill attempts will occur.
REPLACEMENTS AND ROLLUPS -- There will be no replacement characters.
CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIES -- In DM 96, there no regular challenges, only bloodfeuds.
For DM 97, warriors may not change their strategy from round to round (to make it fair
for those who could not attend the F-t-F). There will be no DA challenges.
TURN PROCESSING AND DUE DATES -- If you are not attending the FTF, we must have your
rollups and strategies by Wednesday, January 11, else they are due by 9pm on Friday, at
the hotel. The Bloodgames will process at the FTF with the regular tournament.
MISSED TURNS -- All warriors fight each round. Only the dead may rest.
ERRORS -- If we make an input error, that warrior will be awarded a win and kill.
Errors must be reported before the next turn processes.
NEWSLETTER -- Warriors are ranked according to their number of kills. Champions of
Bloodgames may write a column for the newsletter at the end of the games.
FEES -- A Bloodgames rollup costs a $10 set-up fee. Managers may roll up more than
one team but may run only one team in each arena. The fee for all ten rounds is $49.
AWARDS -- The Bloodgames last ten rounds. Only warriors who survive to the end of
Turn 10 will be eligible for an award. However, a consolation award of a Bloodgames
T-shirt will be awarded to the dead warrior with the most kills.
The living warrior with the greatest number of kills will be the Bloodgames Champion.
Bloodgames Victor titles, 2nd and 3rd place, and Bloodgames Runner-up titles, 4th
through 6th place, will be awarded to those living warriors with the greatest number
of kills at the end of Turn 10, with one other important consideration: Each of these
six warriors must be of a different fighting style. Win/loss records and, if
necessary, recognition points will only be used to determine awards if there is a tie.
A Bloodgames T-shirts will be awarded to the manager of the team with the most kills.
The Bloodgames Champion fights for free in Advanced Duelmasters, and all Champions and
Victors earn Tournament Victor status, which allows them to challenge once per turn
with increased priority. These awards last for six months. The manager of the
Bloodgames Champion, Victors, and Runners-up will receive Bloodgames T-shirts.
AFTERMATH -- Warriors from the Bloodgames may not transfer to any other arena. Once
the games are over, the arena and teams will be disbanded. The fighters have won
their freedom and will never more be seen in the gladiatorial games. A special bonus
will, however, be awarded to the 1st through 3rd place warriors. Lady Sheila
Greywand, of the Isle of the Eye, has consented to allow the top three surviving
gladiators in each Bloodgames admission to the Advanced Duelmasters Games. Any
special training required to qualify those three warriors for Advanced Duelmasters
combat will be conducted before transfer into A.D. Astute managers will note that
this means a slim, but possible chance that a warrior designed from scratch will
survive the Bloodgames, win one of the top three places, and go on to glory in A.D.
That warrior could be yours!
The challenge is yours to take. The final plans are yours to make.
When the dust settles, remember: To the victor goes the spoils!
