REPORT FROM WITHIN THE TOWER
Debby Tonte can't believe the violence here. Well, the golem can't, anyway.
You have to wonder about whoever set up that comment. This is a gladiatorial arena.
Violence is what we do.
And now, a few words ABOUT our violence. Biggest point gain, Obrojobo, 21.
Biggest loss, Gad, 7. Different fights.
The golem thinks that Mid Earth was most avoided by Nomadic Tribe. In fact,
nobody was avoided, and nobody did it.
In theory, Moist Towelette got the most challenges. Of course, Moist fought on
a random match, so you have to wonder about that, too.
I note that all ten styles are represented here (don't you wish we had an
eleventh?). Total parries lead in numbers, there being four of them. Parry strikers
are least numerous, only one. The rest... three and two, variously distributed. We
aren't exactly an overwhelming crowd here. I make it twenty-four active warriors.
I've seen advanced arenas with fewer.
We had thirteen fights, one challenge, two standbys. Twenty-four active, as
noted above.
CAJETAN (7-6036) (19-19-1,65) of SENTINELS fought JELLO KNUCKLES (42-4554) (39-
30-0,85) of COLOR ME SUAVE. CAJETAN was overpowered by JELLO KNUCKLES in a popular 6
minute mismatched conflict. It's very hard to beat up on jello. It just squooshes
out of the way and then flows back.
ANZAHANZEK (7-6204) (16-12-0,34) of SENTINELS fought CAPTURED PIRATE KING (107-
2) (0-0-0,30) of Flash-Frozen Standbys. ANZAHANZEK handily defeated CAPTURED PIRATE
KING in a 1 minute one-sided contest. Anzahanzek is our token parry-striker, and got
ten points for this win. I'm not sure why.
VIRGINIA, NO SANTA (65-6623) (29-39-1,124) of GOT IT FOR CHRISTMAS fought 1977
AMC MATADOR (42-4116) (56-41-0,132) of COLOR ME SUAVE. VIRGINIA, NO SANTA was
subdued by 1977 AMC MATADOR in a crowd pleasing 1 minute match. No car keys for
Virginia.
HEINRIK (81-1257) (40-41-1,202) of CLAN LONGBEARD fought GOJIRO (107-31) (0-0-
0,220) of Flash-Frozen Standbys. HEINRIK overpowered GOJIRO in a popular 2 minute
gory uneven match. Good work, except that now there are a lot of chips of bloody ice
lying around to be cleaned up.
AZAGHAL (81-1223) (31-29-1,210) of DRAGONBANE GUILD fought PINCH BLISTER (18-
9859) (38-43-0,168) of CENTER FOR OLDS. AZAGHAL savagely defeated PINCH BLISTER in
an action packed 4 minute gory duel. Azaghal is our top parry-lunger and got only
two points for this win. Shoulda done it faster, Az.
EVANGELION (59-2340) (37-29-1,198) of IMPROVED ILLUSION fought BEDDER (18-10043)
(28-25-2,178) of CENTER FOR OLDS. EVANGELION won victory over BEDDER in an action
packed 5 minute duel. No surprise, given the different standings here. Evangelion
is the top ripper and gained a mere five points for the win. Possibly because Bedder
resisted so intensely. Bedder, by compensation, is the most popular warrior today.
THE HYPHEN-DASH (42-4499) (35-23-1,194) of COLOR ME SUAVE fought LHISSON (29-
5456) (42-39-0,173) of MID EARTH. THE HYPHEN-DASH defeated LHISSON in an action
packed 1 minute melee. I don't know what it is with the steward who sets up the
random matches. I'm fairly sure he could've set up evener ones. Or maybe the
limited number of teams here is the problem, since a warrior can't fight one of his
teammates--though I'm sure some would like to.
ALMOST PRETTY (42-4496) (58-37-0,193) of COLOR ME SUAVE fought SHINY PENNY (32-
3789) (72-126-2,185) of FOUND IN THE SAND. ALMOST PRETTY devastated SHINY PENNY in a
crowd pleasing 1 minute mismatched match. Ah, a battle of titans! Almost is the
leading wall of steel, gaining 9 points for the victory here. I'm pulling the point
gain off the stylemaster entries, if you aren't a stylemaster, sorry, but I can't go
through the whole listing. Shiny is the high-ranked basher and dropped two points
for the loss. BUT Shiny Penny is the overall popularity leader. So there.
OBROJOBO (7-5869) (32-26-1,204) of SENTINELS fought RAGGEDY ANN (45-4148) (50-
22-0,196) of DARQUE FORCES. OBROJOBO viciously subdued RAGGEDY ANN in an action
packed 2 minute gory brawl. Remember, Obro got the biggest point rise here at
twenty-one! Raggedy is the leading total parry and dropped one point for this loss.
MOIST TOWELETTE (42-4430) (74-44-4,234) of COLOR ME SUAVE fought JOSH (18-9109)
(28-30-0,185) of SHEPHERDS. MOIST TOWELETTE devastated JOSH in an exciting 1 minute
one-sided fight. According to the golem, meaning the scribes in the Commission
office, Moist is the most challenged warrior today. Ha! However, Moist IS the high-
ranked striker, and went seven points higher for the win. Josh is the cream of the
aimed blows today and gained two points for the loss. Josh is also the least popular
fighter.
FAN ZHEN (81-1288) (32-25-2,216) of DARQUE AGES fought RINDEL (29-5346) (41-38-
0,195) of MID EARTH. FAN ZHEN overpowered RINDEL in a 1 minute mismatched duel. Fan
Zhen, the foremost slasher, gained eleven points for the win.
THE challenge:
WALLI WEEBLE (21-6935) (38-29-0,182) of NOMADIC TRIBE challenged GAD (18-9239)
(37-42-1,197) of SHEPHERDS. Up 15. WALLI WEEBLE viciously subdued GAD in a crowd
pleasing 11 minute Challenge fight. Tcha. Gad dropped seven points for this tedious
loss, the biggest reported drop today.
For the title:
FROO-FROO (18-9589) (65-35-4,278) of CENTER FOR OLDS fought THE BRIDE (45-4180)
(41-24-2,226) of DARQUE FORCES. FROO-FROO was subdued by THE BRIDE in an exciting 1
minute Title melee. Well, there's an upset for us! The Bride, top lunger, gained
twenty-three points along with the title. Congratulations.

AVOIDS, BLOODFEUDS, & CHALLENGES
by Pagan
Ever wonder how the whole challenge/avoid thing works?
Who you fight depends on exactly how it works. We will never know exactly how it
works unless we can get a look at the coding for the program, but this is how I think
it works:
The Situation:
The system allows a warrior to make two separate challenges and two distinct
avoids.
Avoids are distinct in that they MUST indicate a specific team to be avoided, so
a "double avoid" indicates a single team twice, which by default means you are
avoiding one team. In this case, the second avoid is a duplicate and therefore a
waste of an avoid.
Challenges are to specific warriors. You have a first challenge, and then you
have a second challenge.
The Process:
First the computer removes all Dark Arena challengers from the list of available
warriors.
Second, the computer checks for WHO fights WHO by going though all TVs and
bloodfeuds, which are 100% sure to go through except in four instances:
1. the warrior challenged does not fight,
2. the warrior challenged is also making a bloodfeud or TV challenge and that
challenge has already been assigned,
3. the warrior has already been assigned to a Dark Arena fight,
4. that warrior has declared your team to be one of his warrior's avoids,
reducing your challenge to 50%.
Third, the computer assesses all the regular first-challenge warriors and assigns
fights. All other challenges are at 100% chance of success except in a few instances:
warrior challenged is going to the DA, warrior challenged is involved in a previously
assigned challenge, warrior challenged is not running this turn, or warrior challenged
has avoided your team at 50% chance to avoid.
Fourth, the computer assesses and assigns all secondary challenges of warriors
not so far assigned for bloodfeuds and TVs.
Fifth, the computer assesses and assigns all the regular second challenges.
Sixth, the computer assigns random matchups in each available class starting with
the highest class first.
Seventh, the computer finds the remaining warriors that have successfully avoided
all first and second challenges and/or who also did not get randomly assigned, AND for
whom no more available warriors remain in their class for random pairing. All of
these warriors get RSI-generated warriors to fight based on their class.
So, if I'm right and avoids reduce the chance for a challenge to 50%, then:
In the absence of an avoid
single challenge = 100% success
double challenge = 100% success, then an additional 100% success
Where an avoid is involved
single challenge vs avoid = 50% success
double challenge vs avoid = 75% (chance to avoid is 0.5 * 0.5 = 0.25; 1 -
0.25 = 75% chance to succeed
Bloodfeuds and TVs may increase the percentage chance of success above 100%, or
they may not. I feel that their increased ability to get through is based solely on
the way the computer assigns challenges. They are first, so they are most likely to
go through. The 100% chance for a challenge to succeed is 100% if it's a TV bloodfeud
and you are the first one to get assigned a fight that day because you are also the
Duelmaster. But after that the chances start to diminish rapidly.
The run-through for second challenges theoretically means your challenge should
be 100% but it's not the case if you are the LAST guy the computer goes to for finding
challenges.
If you don't double challenge, you significantly lower your chance to get your
challenge through. The second challenge is not equal to the first challenge.
