WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT
To the Bold: Our first foray into the gate was rather successful, though our
record 2-3-2 could be better. We left with the rising of the three suns over the
plane, and crept past the border of the lands we have claimed for our own. Following
an ancient, dry riverbed, we came upon a series of caves and caverns which, we soon
discovered, were free of chaos infestation. Making our camp, we constructed three
sturdy buildings and a wall for defensive purposes. It was tough going, but some of
the men have skill at construction and were a great help.
Once our camp was built, it was time. Gathering up our blades, we pressed on
towards enemy lands. Quietly, we struck at a patrol of Jaguar-beasts, doing battle
with abandon. Louis quickly slew a dragon, but Billy, Jeremy, and Shawn were set upon
by vast numbers. Louis and I barely drove the foe back, then withdrew. We had what
we came for--an assessment of the strength of the enemy. With luck, we shall receive
reinforcements--there must be those with the will to slay amongst the hordes of
Alastari.

RAMBLINGS FROM WITHIN THE KEEP
Warriors of Gateway!
I Salute you! And if I stagger a bit as I do so, you will please forgive me. Of
late I have been experimenting a bit with the local flora to see how well some of it
reacts to being brewed and then ingested. I am sure you will agree that this sort of
research is indispensable if we are ever to come to terms with this far distand land
(let alone have any decent ale), so I, (kind hearted, self-sacrificing soul that I am)
have made myself a self appointed guinea pig. What a guy, right? The results you
ask? Actually, the first batches have not been half bad. A lot more testing will
definitely be required.
Hangover has been setting a real standard for everyone else to follow. I saw him
coming back from the Gate yesterday -- all grimy and covered with blood from another
hard fought victory over a creature of Chaos. I applauded him for his win and then
commented that it was looking like I was going to owe him a brew. Just then, I
noticed a few of the Gate Captains hanging around and making snide remarks like: "Boy,
Hangover sure is making himself SCARCE when it comes to challenging time," and "Gee,
Hangover, can I have an autographed copy of your latest book `HOW TO STAY ON TOP OF AN
ARENA WITHOUT EVER FIGHTING A CHALLENGE: A LAZY MAN'S ROAD TO ARENA DOMINANCE'? Now
personally, I think this kind of insult is really uncalled for (although I must admit
to a snigger or two). Hangover is just doing what he feels is right! It's not like
he is trying to avoid fighting any of the Gate Captains for fear that they might spank
his little tushy! No, no no! Still, some of my spies at the commission have led me
to believe that any Gate Commander who loses to a Gate Challenge will probably have to
forfiet his comfy chair in favor of the highest ranked warrior below him. So much for
loopholes.
In other news, there were some really exciting challenge matches to be witnessed
from the stands this week. I especially enjoyed seeing QUICKSILVER best the MULE
(After all the MULE is not the most easy-going warrior around. Some would even call
him stubborn) as well as the Opus-devestates-Baron-Cockroach bloodfest. Can you say
OUCH!? I knew you could. The question I have for you Eusebio is, how can you face
yourself in the mirror after having been soundly trounced by an Inflatable Doll? What
next? Sheep? Lucky for the sheep, they all stayed behind in Alastari!
Finally, I would like to congratulate Ferndok, not only for being the top warrior
to hail from Aradi, but simply for being able to have fought his way up this level of
competition in such a short time. Its only a matter of time before they start asking
you to do shaving cream endorsements and life insurance ads, right Ferndok? I can see
it now: "While I've had a lot of CLOSE calls in the arena, nothing shaves me CLOSER
that Villette shaving cream." Sheeesh.

LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS
In The Gateway:
HANGOVER (29-638) (133-61-4,1) of ABOUNDING AGONY II went boldly into the Gate to
seek out a monster of Chaos and after three days was discovered by AIKITSIAT, a
creature of some power. HANGOVER proved to be the greater of the two in combat,
however, and he slew AIKITSIAT in one minute. Shortly after the creature's death,
a black-winged creature swept down on the Lord Protector, momentarily blinding him.
When he regained his sight, the body of AIKITSIAT was gone.
TEETOTALER (38-326) (148-60-2,7) of MISCELLANEOUS II entered into the Gate and soon
found himself wandering in the jungle, seeking the enemy; he was set on by a JAGUAR
WARRIOR and met the challenge with fearsome courage. There in the jungle, TEETOTALER
destroyed the life of the JAGUAR WARRIOR in two minutes.
DONATELLO (22-366) (189-39-1,3) of NINJA TURTLES took the challenge of the Gateway
and after some days of steamy travel found an AIR LIZARD feasting upon a giant snake.
DONATELLO attacked the creature and slew the AIR LIZARD within a single minute.
GYPSY MOTH (20-704) (97-71-2,16) of DOC LEGRAND'S LAB entered into the Gate in search
of the enemy and there came upon a shapeshifting JAGUAR WARRIOR, who roared a challenge
and met the Lord Protector in fierce combat. In two minutes, Gypsy Moth emerged the
victor, taking the life of the JAGUAR WARRIOR.
LEONARDO (22-205) (163-71-5,21) of NINJA TURTLES took up the challenge of the Gate
and wandered the jungles of the other side for two days before discovering a sleeping
JAGUAR WARRIOR. He set on the creature, who woke abruptly and fought fiercely for two
minutes before LEONARDO killed the JAGUAR WARRIOR.
SGT SLAUGHTER (7-541) (146-52-0,25) of DEATH MASTERS entered the Gate with the courage
of ten men in search of an enemy demon. Near the horrible Temple of Xuquilatl, he did
meet the GORGOROTHOR, a creature unlike anything he had ever seen. For three minutes
did the Lord Protector battle, but at the last was horribly slain by GORGOROTHOR. His
body has not yet been recovered, but Skek is certain it will be shortly.
REGGIE JACKSON (17-1339) (101-69-1,23) of JACKSON FIVE answered the call of the Gateway
and went in search of the enemy. He searched for several days, hacking his way through
the unfamiliar foliage before stumbling upon a JAGUAR WARRIOR. REGGIE JACKSON fought
valiantly for three minutes, but there in the mud he was killed by the JAGUAR WARRIOR.
His body was recovered barely by other Lord Protectors.
VENGEANCE (9-2052) (112-29-5,24) of ANGELS OF PAIN, leading his stalwart band of
Protectors into the jungles on the other side of the Gate, found himself near the
Temple of Xuquilatl; standing guard was a PHASE LIZARD. The creature bore its fangs
and the fight began. Four minutes did VENGEANCE battle the PHASE LIZARD, but at
length he emerged victorious. He remained in the area seeking the bodies of the
missing.
FIRE DONBELOW (41-101) (94-87-2,40) of FIRE FIGHTERS entered the Gateway and after
an exhausting search discovered a JAGUAR WARRIOR leaping from tree to tree in its
cat form. He followed the creature but the demon anticipated his movements and
dropped upon him unawares. FIRE DONBELOW fought with all the cunning and courage
a Lord Protector could, but after two minutes, the JAGUAR WARRIOR had slain him.
His body was recovered by Skek.
BILLY THE KID (13-1386) (94-65-3,43) of EXCELLENT 'VENTURE joined the group of
warriors at the Temple and there found himself face to face with GORGOROTHOR, whose
lips were still wet with human blood. Drawing up his courage, BILLY THE KID did
battle with the monstrosity, but was killed after two minutes. His body has not
yet been recovered.
LAZAR WOLF (4-1169) (49-32-1,60) of TRIBAL COUNCIL made his way through the jungles on
the other side of the Gate until he had reached the Temple Tino-Tiklan. There he
met and did battle with a JAGUAR WARRIOR. Though fearsome in battle, LAZAR WOLF was
at length slain by the JAGUAR WARRIOR within three bloody minutes.
SHAWN THORNTON (29-1359) (75-82-4,59) of PUT UP YOUR DUKES bravely followed his
comrades towards the Temple Xuquilatl, where he did battle a JAGUAR WARRIOR for
two minutes. Though he fought a brave battle, SHAWN THORNTON fell before the teeth
and claws of the creature. His body was recovered by his companions.
JEREMY (17-1642) (80-64-3,56) of YELLOW SUBMARINE was investigating a part of the
jungle where noises of the damned came to them in the night and there he found TEZ,
JAGUAR PRIEST, performing ritual sacrifice. Unthinking of his own danger, JEREMY
entered into battle with TEZ, JAGUAR PRIEST, and was, alas, slain in two minutes.
His body was barely recovered before it could be mutilated in the sacrifice.
GAMMENON (23-1670) (74-64-2,64) of CELESTIALS found his way into the heart of the
Temple Tino Tiklan, where he surprised JIKIN, JAGUAR PRIEST. Though caught off-
guard, JIKIN, JAGUAR PRIEST put the Lord Protector through his steps for two minutes;
at the last, however, GAMMENON emerged the victor, and left the body in a pool of
blood on the Temple floor.
THING (36-97) (61-56-0,97) of ADDAMS FAMILY followed into the bowels of the Temple
and confronted PUI, JAGUAR WARRIOR. His fortune was not so great, for while he
fought with the strength of ten, the end of three minutes found him laying dead
at the feet of PUI, JAGUAR WARRIOR. His body was recovered by his companions.
