THIRD ANNUAL ALL-ALASTARI MANAGER'S CHOICE AWARDS CEREMONY
Bondar T'sekiel here at the Third Annual All-Alastari Manager's choice awards
ceremony. It's my first sting as MC, but I assure you that I am no rank amateur.
Last season I presented the awards at the Vithicar Ice Sculpture contest--a rousing
affair, let me assure you.
Well, enough about me, we have the most exciting day of the year ahead of us, and
I, for one, am looking forward to it! Learning from past mistakes, the organizers of
this gala event have prepared for every possibly contingency! The only problem anyone
could foresee is how the seperation of the elite of Alastari with the advent of
Gateway will affect the awards ceremony--but even that potentially major problem has
been handled with ease! Using the Grey Wand, Lady Sheila opened a rift in the
temporal vortex... I'll spare you the technical aspects of the procedure... and
prepared a "bubble" in space. The Gateway dudes will be able to see what is going on
during the ceremony, and we will be able to see them and their reactions as they are
given their awards! It should be a totally mindblowing experience. A once-in-a-
lifetime event... or at least it will be until next year...
This is the point in our program where we usually view the procession of managers
and their prized warriors, but due to the Gateway dilemma, they are not staging that
this year. After all, all managers and some warriors are on this side of the gate,
and some warriors are on that side. The parade would be anticlimatic after the
amazing spectacles of the last two years. Instead, the TAAMCAC is proud to announce
that we will be presenting an interview with a star of the arena for your amusement.
During the preparations for the temporal bubble, we got hold of the legendary
Teetotaler in between raids with The Companions, one of the Gate's elite combat bands.
He was kind enough to do an intereview with our very own Baraba Altwars. Tee was kind
enough to comment on some deeply personal items--in particular, the retirement of his
original manager, Phido, and the fact that though he has been close, he never has won
a Primus Tournament. Without any more delay, here we are: Baraba Altwars and
Teetotalet, taped earlier this week...
Baraba Altwars: Mr. Teetotaler, glad ot have you with us today.
Teetotaler: I'm glad to be here, Baraba, it's a pleasure.
BA: I hope you don't think it's too personal, but I'm sure the audience is dying to
know... How has it been for you going from one manager to another to another? All
along you've bee winning, but it has to be a disruption.
T: Certainly it has been a concern, but I've dealt with it.
BA: That easily?"
T: I didn't say it was easy, but I did it.
BA: Let me ask you this... of your three managers, which one have you liked the best?
T: I guess we're playing for keeps, eh, Baraba? <pause> I'd have to say Phido was
my favorite. He brought me up from the gutter. We had a close relationship.
BA: What was it like for you when he retired?
T: I was hurt, you know? At first I felt like he was just passing me on like a piece
of meat. But in the end I realized that he passed me on to Mirage so that I could
keep fighting. I don't really know how to do anything else.
BA: And how was Mirage as a manager?
T: I really didn't se him much. He's a very hands-off type of manager. He just sits
back and lets his guys fight.
BA: Which you... liked?
T: It was good for me at the time.
BA: And now Caesar. Caesar is a very controversial manager. How do you like him?
T: He's a very intense person. He likes to win... a lot. That's important to me,
too. So we get along very well. He's taught me a lot, and I like to think I've
taught him a thing or two.
BA: To change the subject, I hear you're part of a group called The Companions. Just
what is this group about, for those of us who aren't in the Gate?
T: We're a guerilla force... a scout team. The first in and the last out. It's hard
work, but easier than fighting Donatello.
BA: <laughing> Do you enjoy the Gate?
T: Put it this way. I get to fight without any of the BS. No politics, no griping.
It's quieter than Primus.
BA: But boring?
T: Boring? No. You spend as much time as I have around the Primus Megamanagers and
you need a break. Those guys never stop!
BA: What would you have them do differently?
T: Just fight, baby. <laughs> Just picture some of those guys on the sands!
BA: I just have one more question for you, and I understand if you don't want to
answer it. How do you feel never having won a Primus Tournament?
T: <pauses> I've been close a few times. I think once you get to that upper level,
the 13-1 records, that kind of thing, I think luck as a lot to do with it. I just
haven't had the ball bounce my way.
BA: But you still think you might win one?
T: Anything's possible. I'm not getting older, I'm just getting better!
BA: Thanks, Mr. Teetotaler. Good luck to you! Now back to Bondar T'sekiel and the
Third Annual All-Alastari Awards Ceremony!
Thank you, Baraba, for that enlighening piece on one of the legends of our time.
You'r ejust in time, too, because the guests have all arrived and it's time for us to
begin! Drumroll please!
That's more like it! Here we go! First on our agenda is the Hall of Fame
Induction ceremony. Joining the all-time greats Adonis, Epitaph, E-Snee, Buckwheat
Whitefolk, Donatello, Sly, Villiage Idiot, Stormbringer (and Khorga Khan and Chaos
Knight--I'm told they were inadvertantly left off the list...) we have one warrior:
Vengeance. Appearing on 12 of the 16 valid ballots, including 6 number 1 votes,
Vengeance racked up 122 total points, for an average of 7.6 per ballot, considerably
more than the required 6.0. Surprisingly, Donatello also would have been near
induction again! His 5.5 per ballot was most impressive for someone who was already
inducted. Of the other top vote-getters, Teetotaler garnered 3.5 pts per ballot, Dee
Dee got 2.8 and Gypsy Moth 1.6. First place votes were had by Vengeance (6),
Donatello (3), Teetotaler (2), Falstaff, Eve, Gypsy Moth, Khorga Khan and Silverflash
(1 each). Our Hall of Fame, in alphabetical order, stands as follows:

And now for the event you have all been waiting for! Another drumroll! Ah,
that's more like it! The All-Alastari Manager's Choice Awards! We will be presenting
our awards from last to first, so those of you who are up past your bedtime will
remain on the edge of your seats throughout! To keep things moving along, we have
foregone multiple presenters in favor of... well, ME! I will give out all the awards.
Also remember, no speeches allowed! If you want to give a boring monologue, save it
for your Lady's Protector Column!
The first award for the evening is: the Best ADM award! Every arena except 101
(Home Guard) and 107 (Lirin Kiv) got at least one vote, but the winner, far and away,
with 7 votes, was ADM 104. 105 and 103 were tied for second with three each.
Up next we have best DM arena. The winners, with 2 votes apiece, are DMs 15, 18,
and 17. Many others got one vote each.
Moving on, we come to Least Favorite Style. The most hated styles in the game
are lunger and striker, each got five votes. Basher and Parry-Riposte were tied for
third with two votes apiece.
On the opposite side of the fence, the Favorite Style category, we also had a
tie. Wall of steel and slasher each picked up 4 votes. Parry-rip was a close third
with three. (Basher and lunger each picked up two.)
Nominees for Most Respected Manager were: Crip, Tex, The Upright Man, The Dark
One, Doc LeGrand, Mirage, The Lunatic, Merlin, The Sentinel, and Carapace. In yet
another tie, Carapace and Mirage each got 4 votes to win. The Sentinel was the only
other manager with more than 1 vote--receiving two.
Here we have the ballots for Ugliest Warrior. The only warriors with more than
one vote were The Mule, Louise the Lip and Gouge. Gouge got 1.5, Mule took home two
and the winner, Louise got 4.
On to Best-Looking Warrior. This category featured only two warriors with more
than one vote. They were Cyanide with two and our winner, Eve The Ever-lovely, who
received a whopping 7 votes!
Most Feared Alliance was close this year, as the Midnight Foundation and the Dark
Circle dueled for top honors. The Dark Circle, in all is odious glory, came out on
top, four votes to three. The LBA, GAPPDA, NCA and the Ivory League got one vote
each. Hmmmm. Only 11 votes for Most Feared Alliance out of 18 total ballots... a lot
of fearless managers out there...
Moving on, we come to Best Spyreporter. Last year was a two-dog show, but this
year a number of spies got a few votes. They were: Seahawk, Swift, The Watcher,
Alphonse Khan, NAIMT, Helyse, Ironwit (isn't he dead or something?), and the She-
Puppy. The winners were... NAIMT and Swift with four votes each.
Best Writer/Roleplayer: Seven nominees. Boss Rat (???), Shadowmaster, Miles, Doc
Steele, Nuln, Tex, and The Dark One. Curiously, those last two each voted for each
other... which made a difference, as Tex won the category, five votes to 4.5. The
others each got 1 except Miles, who had .5.
On to Most Creative Manager Name. Only 9 of you elected to vote in this
category. Names which people particularly liked were: The Upright Man, Sioux-Z, The
Silencer, Destitute Noble, Moriarty, Mannequin and Neon Necromancer. The only one of
these worthies who got more than 1 vote was T.U.M., who got 3... I guess he has a lot
of friends...
The Most Creative Team Name voting, as always, was a disgusting mess. Sis Boom
Baa (last year's winner) got 1 vote, along with Taco Gods, Refried Gorillas, Cheeses
Christ, Slay Bells, Prestidigitation, Satan's Deli, Devine Horizons, Frog Pioneers,
Bad Bread. Abounding Agony garnered two votes. But our winner, once again a TUM
team, is Street Pizza. The man is just a marvel.
Most Creative Warrior Name also included a large number of nominees: Burrito
Mussolini, Elvis Lear, Rabid Moose (the two-time defending champ), Solder of Fortune,
Bald Champion, Cosmic Tripper, Foot Long Tongue, hostile Devotion, Waste of Steele,
Fates Warning and Puck. Each got 1 vote EXCEPT our winner and STILL CHAMPION, Rabid
Moose, who got 5.
Best Up and Coming Warrior nominees were: Noelle, Bullfrog, Mystic, Litemi Fire,
Timkord, Dark Prophet, Cyanide, Burrito Mussolini, David, Puck, Jakari Dragon Lord.
Dark Prophet and Cyanide got two votes each, but our winner is Bullfrog, with four.
He won last year, too. I guess he's not up and coming very fast, he is? GET HERE
ALREADY!
Best Up And Coming Team featured only one team with more than one vote. Eye of
the Needle got two. Other nominees were Bag-O-Scrags, Freaks of Nature, Grim
Obituary, The God Squad, Satan's Kingdom, Nature's Force, Cold Steele, Out of Faerie,
and Street Pizza. Congrats to Inferno.
Best up and Coming Manager is next! This time we have a four-way tie! The
winners are Miles, Manson, TUM, and Mad Max, each of whom got two votes. ST,
Stranger, Sensei, Gunther (Beer King) (WHO??? Great name, there!), Cliff Banana and
Fusion each got 1.
Most Feared Warrior: Figure we're about the enter the Donny zone, right? Not
this year. Vengeance out-scored the Turtle 7 to 3 in this category, marking the first
time the great one himself was not feared the most. Falstaff, King Crab, Cyanide and
Executioner each got one vote.
Most Feared Team featured more divergence of opinion as AGAIN a 4-way tie
emerged. Golden Hoste, The God Squad, Ninja Turtles and roman Heroes each got two
votes to tie for the win. Engines of Doom, CCE, Zig Zag, Chemicals, Erdman Brothers
and Street Pizza each took in one vote.
Ah! Now onto a big one. Most Feared Manager. The nominees are: Aliax,
Moriarty, Carapace, Caesar, Arch Savant, Carnage, Foxy, Doc Steele, and Bird. The
winners, with four votes each, are: Carapace and Caesar. That is definitely an upset.
The scary thing is Caesar voted for Carapace. Doc Steele took two votes, the rest one
each.
Now we're into the Top Warrior categories. First up is Best TP. Nominees are:
Nameless Took, E. Hemingway, Lint, Bull Dozer, Untamed Fury, Flinderro and She-Devil.
Took took two votes, Lint three, leaving us with our winner, as expected, E.
Hemingway, with six votes.
Best AB. Really a race between Tawny and Necron 99 (witness his return in the
Gate!). With a handful of others thrown in. The "others" who each got one vote were
Sly Feint, Savage Sage, Psionic Squirrel, William Tell and Alain. But the winner
is... Tawny. 6 to 4 over Necron 99.
Despite a long absense from the ranks of Primus and a choke-job in the last
Primus Tourney, Dee Dee was the big favorite to repeat as top PR. Well she did. Dee
Dee got five votes. Fates Warming and Villiage Idiot each got three. Sam Styx got
1.5. Madam Butterfly, Char$(3008) and King Key each got one. Moloch got .5.
In the PS race, Leonardo was the only contestant to get more than one vote (6).
Baron Cockroach, Sgt. Slaughter, Joshua, Shaved Mammoth (who? Must be a pud!), Shadow
and Vince Clortho rounded out the pack.
Would any of you be surprised to learn Donatello DIDN'T win best PL?? You should
be, 'cause he DID, as always. The big guy got 9 votes as compared to three for
Falstaff and two each for King Crab and Paragon (who?).
Best Lunger was an odd category this time around. Someone divided their vote
into three, making for some weird results. The end result was no surprise, however,
as Vengeance won, geting 11.3 votes. Cyanide was second with 1.3, then Tagan and
Executioner with one each and finally Bullfrog with .3.
Here is a major upset. Best Striker... Opus 7, Marduk 7.5. Now I do realize
that some of the Primus managers are new to the top ranks and aren't familiar with the
little penguin, but WOW. All I can say is this Marduk guy better make a showing in
the next Primus tourney or he'll be some kind of whippin' boy.
Best Slasher was a good, close race. The nominees were: Jimi (HEY! He's no
slasher!), Smelly Socks, Hastur, Arious Al'vere (I hate typing that name!), R'yelah
(that one, too!), Gaston and Priestess Python. The winner is... Gaston, in another
upset. He beat the Python 5 to 4. R'yelah got 1.5 and Arious 2.5. I guess someone
should have told Gaston that before he went out and got whupped in the Slasher Mini-
Tournament they're having in Primus...
Best Basher was no real contest. Pile Driver, the TC, got 11.5 votes. DAvid and
Neil Leggstrong each got 2. Mrs. Butterworth got 1, and Powerslave took home a half a
vote.
Hangover won last year's best WoS vote, Teetotaler won the year before. Smart
money was on one of them to repeat. And... one did. Tee got 7 votes to Hangover's 3.
Churchill got 2. Delbaeth, Blitzkrieg and True Lies each got one.
DA DA DA DUM! Here we are. Best Team. The nominees are Golden Hoste, Angels of
Pain, Ninja Turtles, The God Squad, Engines of Doom, Roman Heroes. The winner is...
Ninja Turtles, 7 to 4 over Golden Hoste. The God Squad was a distant third with two.
Best Overall Warrior: Traditionally, Donny territory. Will he regain his
momentum, or will Vengeance continue to gain ground? Obviously the latter, as
Vengeance won 10 to 4. Executioner and Falstaff each picked up a vote.
Finally, we have arguably the most important award at this ceremony... Best
Manager. The nominees are... Carapace, Doc LeGrand, Scrag, Carnage, Bird, The Dark
One, Tex, Mirage, Mannequin, and Caesar. The winner is... Carapace in a landslide.
He received six votes. The Dark One got two. The others took home one each and a
hope for next year!

RAMBLINGS FROM WITHIN THE KEEP
Hail and well met, Gladiators of the Gate!
It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, Spymaster Extrordinaire, and ale-drinker most
awesome. If it appears to you that I am somewhat into my cups, I will say to you that
appearances may be deceiving, although not in this case. I must admit to somewhat a
bout of depression. The source you ask? Why, no reason other than the upcoming face-
to-face games, an event at which I fear I may be forced to pay for some of my loud
mouthed remarks, nefarious behavior, and general ramblings. No, I'm not worried so
much about you lot. Rather my concern rests with Sheila Graywand and what she may say
about the discharge of my duties here so far. Most of all, I hope she does not bring
up the issues of either her daughter or her niece. While I may be adept at dodging
pointed questions -- this is an art made much more difficult under the baleful gaze of
a Sorceress. Anyone looking to make extra gold as a bodyguard can look me up at my
residence just as soon as I sleep this binge off.
Speaking of stomach aches, I am not much looking forward to the Gate transition
from here to Alastari. Last time I nearly lost my lunch, a fact I would not so much
mind if I had not invested so much into a fine luncheon just prior to the journey.
This time, I will have lunch AFTER arrival -- of this much I can assure you.
Our society is not much different from most others. We tend to focus on either
the big winners or the big losers. But what about the "middle of the road" people?
THe average mass of humanity that does no worse nor no better than the average fellow.
Well this week let t6he spotlight turn on the Death Masters, Ninja Turtles, et al.,
who, as of this week's games have accumulated a total record of 26-27-2. Pretty
average wouldn't you say? Please don't applaud. Just look mildly approving. In
terms of average warriors, let the following names ring out (or at least be heard in
somewhat average tones); FIRE DONBELOW of the FIREFIGHTERS who stands now at 97-91-2.
And how 'bout RALPH of BLACK FLAG who now can now boast a record of 81-85-1? A
further examination yields RAVE of BIRDS OF PREY at 65-61-0. Pretty average the lot
of them. But tried and true and worthy of at least one moment in the sun.
Well until next we meet, please remember. The average fighter has at least one
advantage over many of the great warriors that have fought in the pages of history.

LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS
REGGIE JACKSON (17-1339) (105-71-3,4) of JACKSON FIVE entered into the Gateway and
there encountered the monster AXIQUENDO. For three minutes did our stalwart champion
do battle, and in the end, with a shout of Victory, the Lord Protector did destroy
AXIQUENDO, a crushing blow for the enemies of Ghea.
TEETOTALER (38-326) (152-60-6,15) of MISCELLANEOUS II led his companions into the Gate
where he found and faced down a shadow creature called QUEKIKOTER. TEETOTALER battled
the demon-creature QUEKIKOTER for two minutes; at the end, the Lord Protector was
still standing, and the creature lay dead.
SHAWN THORNTON (29-1359) (75-87-4,57) of PUT UP YOUR DUKES followed into the Gate
where he was attacked by a demon called QUEKIKOTER, who drew the unprepared Lord
Protector into what was a hasty one-minute slaughter. SHAWN THORNTON was rescued
before his body was devoured by the demons.
JEREMY (17-1642) (80-69-3,68) of YELLOW SUBMARINE marched stalwartly into the Gate
prepared to do battle against the enemy, but was laid upon by a JAGUAR WARRIOR who
gave him no quarter. For two minutes JEREMY savagely battled, but at last, broken and
bleeding, the JAGUAR WARRIOR drove the Lord Protector to his death. His body was
recovered by Skek.
DLOM EMILS (5-1857) (68-75-2,97) of ZIG ZAG took the paths least trod into the Gate
and shortly found a spot that no one else had yet seen. There he disturbed a being
of might unlike any that had been described thus far. The TZENORI dove at DLOM EMILS
and killed him in one minute. His body was recovered some time later.
BHURAK (60-1081) (61-43-3,82) of CCE, following after his companion, was set upon
by THE YTHRR. This creature he knew, for he had seen his teammate after being brought
back from battle with it, but there was no time to take cover. BHURAK took up arms
against THE YTHRR, but died in one minute. His body was recovered by his teammates.
MASH (14-1528) (69-71-0,93) of NOMADS made his way through the jungle, killing
small beings of little note, when in the darkness he found the creature who had EYES
OF FIRE and challenged it to battle. He was unprepared for the ferocity of the
demon, however, and died in one minute. His body has not yet been found.
NICODEMUS (8-1729) (64-40-3,101) of BRITERON BY was blazing a new trail towards a
Temple that had not yet been found when he was confronted by ZITHORIXAN, who bade him
return from whence he came. NICODEMUS stood fast, unyeilding, and gave fierce battle
but was finally laid down by ZITHORIXAN at the end of two minutes. His body was found
by Skek and returned to the Keep.
EUSEBIO (6-1456) (61-34-1,103) of GOLDEN HOSTE entered the Gate in the late of the
day, when the odd suns of the Gateway world were setting, and almost at once found
the DARKARYI making its study of our Keep. EUSEBIO immediately gave battle, but was
assassinated by DARKARYI in one minute. The alarm from the Keep was then sounded
and EUSEBIO's body was recovered as a swarm of Lord Protectors came from the walls to
send the beast back to its own side.
BILLY THE KID (13-1386) (94-70-3,105) of EXCELLENT 'VENTURE followed his leader into
the Gate, making his way from the encampment to find a PHASE DRAGON not far from their
safe spot. The Lord Protector launched into battle to protect our territory, but
the DRAGON phased, and easily killed BILLY THE KID in one minute.
LOUIS (30-1370) (77-79-4,107) of THE DAMNED saw his comrade fall and leaped to his
defense, startling the PHASE DRAGON but perhaps not enough; the DRAGON, still unsated,
killed LOUIS in another minute, but, discouraged, flew away from the immediate
vicinity. The two Lord Protectors were recovered by their companions.
12) HANGOVER (29-638) (137-63-8,8) of ABOUNDING AGONY II TV challenged
DONATELLO (22-366) (194-40-2,7) of NINJA TURTLES.
HANGOVER slimly lost to DONATELLO in an exciting 2 minute battle.
