WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT
TO THE BOLD:
Once again we set forth into the Gate, our numbers thinned by the necessity of
some of our troopers getting some skills in order to better serve our purposes. It
was a dark day, not that any of them herein the stinking pit aren't dark, and the
otherworldly humidity made the clothes on our backs cling and stick as if we had just
climbed out of a lake.
The mission began as did a number of others... hit and run, fleeing enemy
patrols, hiding in the dense cover, praying that their elite forces didn't stumble
across us--when, for once, we actually caught a bit of luck.
As we waded through a body of water which on any other world would have been
called a swamp, but on this one was as close to a nice, clear pond as one can get,
Shawn spotted a corpse half submerged and crammed into a rotting tree. That in itself
was not a real big surprise... bodies little the landscape out here, but what was
surprising is that the glint of gold jewelry sparkled from around the corpse's neck.
We quickly moved to investigate, with Tee and Jeremy fanning out to cover us in
case it was trap. I knew it wasn't, but I've been wrong before, and the boys have had
to suffer through a resurrection to pay for my lack of caution. Battle here in the
Gate is different than it is in the arena back on Alastari. There, personal bloodlust
is a good thing. Caution can be dangerous to a lunger like me. Here, I've learned to
trust nothing. It's a lesson we've all learned a dozen times.
As soon as I lifted the amulet off of the Chaos Beast--it was one of those flying
lizards, an Air Lizard, I think--I knew it was something powerful. It buzzed like a
nest of angry wasps and grew hot as I held it. We had to get it back to the
encampment so that some of Sheila's flunkies could give it a look. But I had no
illusions. If this thing was as powerfulas I thought it was, they would be out
looking for it, too.
We set out, back the way we came, making pretty good time. It was just as we
were crossing the River of Fire, the final major obstacle before the fort, when they
caught up with us.
I threw the amulet to Shawn and told him to run while the rest of us held them
back. Then they were all over us. The battle raged for at least an hour, but we knew
we were in the worst of it. When a group of them splintered off and went after Shawn,
I told Tee to keep at them. I had to make sure the amulet got back to the camp.
I set off running with a Water Dragon on my heels, but those suckers are fat and
lazy. They're quick over a short stretch, but you can outlast them. Soon he lagged
back and I was on my own. Before I went another mile, I came upon Shawn and two
Beasts doing battle. I quickly joined in and dropped one of their priests in his
tracks. The other Beast wasn't so easy. Another Air Dragon. Shawn and I took it at
the same time, each on opposing sides, which really is the only sure way to take one
of these reeking bastards. Finally, I scored a good strike just under its wing, and
it limped away to heal. Before it went, it was just mean enough to deal Shawn a blow
to the head, killing him.
But I had the amulet. I struggled with myself not to go back to help the others,
but this was too important. If we could study their magic we might be able to learn
how to defeat it. Grudgingly, I turned and ran again, back to the Keep. I'd be back
for them, or their bodies, later.

RAMBLINGS FROM WITHIN THE KEEP
Greetings, warriors of Gateway!
It is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, Spymaster Extrordinaire and Pundit Most Excellent.
All right, let's talk Dynasties. First, what is a Dynasty? A Dynasty is a group of
teams sponsored by the same original manager that has manged to fight its way through
the ranks of regular DM, through the ranks of AD, through the ranks of Primus all the
way to Gateway. AND THEN, here in Gateway, fought its way to having a positive win
loss record with a significant number (100+) of fights. When you qualify it that way
there are only a very few TRUE Dynasties. Now people may talk, and tongues may wag,
but numbers don't lie (and neither do spies, right)? There are a lot of wannabes out
there but only a few, a select few, that can lay claim to founding a Dynasty in the
sense I'm yakin' about right now.
Pass me another of those foul smellin' swamp ales will ya!?! Now, By my way of
thinking there are only two real Duelmasters Dynasties in existence today, with a
couple of possible contenders. The first of these is the LeGrand Dynasty. Right now
with a total of 6 teams fielding warriors, LeGrand's Dynasty boasts a total
win/loss/kill record of 78-42-7 (65%). Next in line for the claim to fame is what
I'll call the "Zig Zag" Dynasty which fields a total of 7 Gateway teams for a total
win-loss of 102-85-8 (54.5%). That's it. No other collection of teams Currently cuts
it at the same level. Now one rung down, you will arguably find another cluster of
Dynastic contenders. In this group you will find the "Guardian" dynasty, "The Bears"
and the "Rat Pack" Dynasties. All three have positive win-loss at this blistering
level of competition, they just haven't yet shown quite the breadth. Only time will
tell how the Dynasties will shape up in the future as Gateway is still such a young
arena.
Well so much for long winded pontificating. Before I leave your august presence
for a healthier clime (my chambers) I would just like to quickly comment on a few of
this weeks more notable happenings. First, Gypsey Moth remains at the helm as our
Gate Commander, having bested Tagan in a minute of fast paced dueling. Can you say TV
challenge? Bravely tried, Tagan. Maybe next time. Vengeance has once again blooded
his blade at the Gate, this time sending Darkaryi on to meet whatever gods the chaos
creatures of this plane chose to worship. This brings his total kills now to 12. In
fact, if this keeps up we may be looking at an all time high kill record (I like it!).
The longest fight recorded this round was 7 minutes long, with the average fight
running a scant two minutes. I guess the warriors in this arena just aren't much for
idle chit-chat or even sand dancing. Can you believe it?
Oops, Nature calls me to her bossum (and her name is Zzelda!) I must away.

LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS
VENGEANCE (9-2052) (119-30-11,2) of ANGELS OF PAIN once more lead his troops into
the Gate, where he encountered DARKARYI, a creature of dire countenance who had taken
the lives of warriors before; there VENGEANCE viciously butchered DARKARYI in three
minutes of battle.
TEETOTALER (38-326) (153-61-7,9) of MISCELLANEOUS II entered the Gateway with his
commander and there found himself faced with QUETIZIKEL, who dove on the Lord
Protector without giving quarter and there, in two minutes, murdered TEETOTALER. The
Lord Protector was recovered by his companions.
BARIUM (53-378) (78-64-2,16) of CHEMICALS entered into the Gateway, followed the
well-laid trails until he found a place in the jungle that had not yet been
penetrated by his fellows. There he faced down TEZ, JAGUAR PRIEST. BARIUM
viciously butchered the beast in one minute.
SOLOMON (35-911) (73-55-1,66) of SHATTERED REALITY walked into the Gate, following
the river deep into unchartered areas of the Chaos realm. There he faced down
KOTUKERI, a beast none have ever seen before. SOLOMON was assassinated by KOTUKERI
in one minute. SOLOMON's body was recovered by Skek.
LOUIS (30-1370) (78-80-4,77) of THE DAMNED followed his commander into the Gate,
where he was confronted by TZENORI on the banks of a small stream where the water ran
redder than blood. LOUIS was butchered by TZENORI in one minute, his body recovered
by his companions.
BILLY THE KID (13-1386) (94-72-3,107) of EXCELLENT 'VENTURE went with his companions
into the Gate and there did battle with XIOZOROX. BILLY THE KID was butchered by
XIOZOROX after a two-minute struggle.

Friday through Sunday, at the Doubletree Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri (8801 NW 112th
St, at I-29). Room rates are $79.00 per night, 1-4 occupancy. The rooms are blocked,
so you can call to reserve your room (tell them you're with the Reality Simulations

available after 12 July, so reserve your room now.
There is a free 24-hour airport shuttle from the Kansas City Int'l Airport.
The tournament information sheet/strategy sheet should be out sometime in late
May/early June.

A NOTE ON MAILMEN
In response to the articles on new fighting styles, those were good, but how can
you forget our most favorite warrior who has a style all his own? The Mailman! To
Duelmasters he is our most sacred person. I mean, how many of you managers out their
have sat down and calculated what day your Duelmasters will arrive and have sat
waiting for it to arrive, while unknown to you, your mailman is fighting away to get
your Duelmasters delivered. Let's review him...
ST - should be around 19. He needs to heft two medium bags, cloth mail armor and
a ton of rubber bands.
CN - 13, give or take a few. He does get bitten by dogs often.
SZ - Any.
WT - At least 10. He often likes to read the mail.
WL - Try about 20. He must endure all kinds of weather.
SP - 16 is good. He needs to run across streets in traffic.
DF - 10 is good. Sometimes he has to carry packages.
This setup should get you a good mailman but they are hard to come by. If you
can come up with any better, diplo me. I am:
