WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT
To the Bold:
As it turned out, the amulet we discovered was a spellstone, the Gate's version
of a magical amplifier. Like the Grey Wand, only weaker. The interesting thing about
it was that it proved to Sheila's flunkies that magic worked differently over here.
By examining it, they were able to discover ways to tap this world's magic. This
would be a great aid to us in the future. Of course, Skek decided it would serve best
if kept in the fort, but that came as no surprise. Since none of us are adept
spellcasters, I let him.
That discovered, I returned and retrieved my comrades' bodies. Since only Tee
was fit for duty, I rounded up the others, including Solomon, who had been busy
fortifying our base's defenses, and we set out on patrol. The jungle was very quiet,
almost as if our victory in claiming the amulet had been a dire blow to the entire
region. At least, just when I was beginning to think that the enemy was in hiding, we
heard the sounds of battle and rushed in. Barium, a fellow Lord Protector, was busy
finishing off a Jaguar Priest, but a group of Chaos spawn was creeping up behind him.
The battle was joined.
I chose their leader, Darkaryi, she claimed her name was, and waded in to the
fray. Though she wounded me twice, victory was mine in the end. It was easily the
fiercest battle I had faced from the Chaos spawn, and I will mark her as a valiant foe
in the poem I am composihng. The battle thus ended with the enemy leader dead,
revealing that all my companions were slain as well. I quickly constructed litters
and bore them home.

RAMBLINGS FROM WITHIN THE KEEP
Greetings and well met!
Yes it is I, Zontani Sharp Eyes, here to once again confound and amaze you with
my wit and charm. Although you may find it hard to believe, many is the man and maid
who have traveled leagues to sit before me but to listen with rapt attention to every
word that falls from my lips. Alright, so perhaps that's laying it on a bit thick.
But there was this one guy that came from the neighboring town to see if the warts on
my nose were as large as rumor fortold. HE stayed quite a while to listen to the yarn
I was spinning at the time (of course I was buying the ale). Anyway the point is, you
sword swallowing, lance dancing, rapier romping, muscle bound types are the lucky
ones. Sadly, with me here at the gate, none are the citizens of fair Alastrai that
may now here the compelling timber of my voice on a cold winters night before the
tavern fire, nor see the twinkle in my eye as I pass on a secret that none know but I.
My point? WAKE UP, I'M ABOUT TO GIVE MY SPY REPORT!
O.K. First off I have to admit I'm impressed with the 13-0 record that KIll
Humanoids have been able to post so far. Sure, they only have one warrior (Furious
Impaler). But still 13-0 at Gateway? I'm not sure how they've managed to pull it
off. Gypsy Moth still reigns supreme in command of the Gate, managing to fend off a
challenge from Barium of CHEMICALS. They say that Barium was using a new drug formula
that just didn't quite pan out. You know the old saying, "Better dueling through
chemistry". Vengeance added yet another kill to his record, this time spitting a
Jaguar Priest. An old fortune teller told me in confidence that this "13th" kill
could be an omen either for good or ill in Vengeance's carreer. Personally, I think
its just an omen for ill pinted at any of the poor chaos creatures that have to fight
him in the Gate. I guess we'll see.
Did you guys see the fight this week between Swamp Rat and Revenge? Talk about
viscous, er, I mean vicious! The fight was the longest one this week going a total of
four minutes. I actually had to avert my gaze from the bloodshed it was so gory.
Incidently, I have had requests from both the Union of Hotdog Vendors and The Nibbly
Bits Workers of Gateway, to see if you lot can't lay off and let the fights go a bit
longer. Two or three minutes is just not enough time for s spectator to get up and
buy a hotdog or nibbly bit during a fight he doesn't care for -- let alone get up to
answer nature's call. Any rumors that I was paid off to make this anouncement are
completely unsubstantiated.
Well that's it for this week. Until next we meet please keep one hand on your
sword and the other on your wallet (that way I can be sure that neither hand is trying
to get my wallet!).
