WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT
To the Bold:
I was well pleased to note that there are at least some with courage amongst us,
as a full 11 Lord Protectors entered the jungles to face the Chaos Hordes. I had
hoped for an even greater number, but it is a good start. We posted five victories
against the enemy, which is, by far, the most that have been achieved in a long time.
At the very least, we have made certain that our demonic rivals know we mean business
and are not terrified of their gaping jaws.
The most notable battles were the awesome victory of Maynard G. Krebs over the
huge beast known as Bokar. This monstrosity once slew me, so I amk indeed aware of
its dark prowess. My congratulations to Maynard.l Indeed, another of my least
favorite foes, the Talons of Thunder, who it took me six minutes to defeat, managed to
slay the valiant Executioner. That was, indeed, a poor matchup for the former Lady's
Protector. Both Teetotaler and Reggie Jackson fought foes I have not encountered, so
I cannot comment on the titanic struggles they must have faced.
One warning to those who dare to fight the Chaos Minions, they have amazing
recuperative powers. If you down a foe, make certain it is dead, for several beasts
reported slain are returning to plague us once again. If you can, drag the bodies
back to the Keep to be properly disposed of.
Finally, now that as the year ends, I shall prepare a list of all of the Gate
foes faced, the records of our number against them and a list of their known weapons
and abilities for the rest of you to examine. Any information you can add regarding
the vitals of the beasts would be appreciated.
For the Companions,
Vengeance
RAMBLINGS FROM WITHIN THE KEEP
Greetingssss, good Lord Protectorssss of the Gate!
It seemsss that our good spymassster, Zontani, has imbibed 'pon too much of his
home brew and isss currently fast asssleep under the desssk here in the main office,
leaving the tasssk of hisss report to me, your humble Keep dragon. Pleassse bear with
me, gallant Protectorsss, for thisss isss all new to me.
It sssseemssss, Lord Protectors, that there are not many of you out there, for
there is a block of only 25 managerial locker roomssss occupied for this cycle--a sad
lacking in our ranksss! For how can we hope to hold back the rissssing tide of
chaosss from invading Alassstari unlesss we band together and do battle? Be that as
it may, we continue reporting on the fightsss.
The Valiant Tagan holdsss onto the Commander's position for yet another cycle,
holding back Chrissstine from her attempt to take over the rank. Eight brave Lordsss
entered into the Gateway to do battle with the foul demonsss of the junglessss. Three
Lord Protectorsss were victorioussss, and did their part to lessen the ranks of the
demons, while five were snuffed. 'Tis proving lassssting difficult, isss it not, to
make headway at this slow pace? Perhaps 'tisss, though, a good strategy on our part,
to slowly learn their numberssss and their weaknessessss, so that when comes the day
when many more Lordssss have come here we may attack on masse! (Soundsss reasssonable
to me!)
Fightssss within the Keep were exciting, nonethelessss, as we gathered to watch
the valiant warriors train with each other; could it be true, assss Zontani
sssuggests, that there is betting going on as to which of our Lords will achieve 200
winssss first? A worthy bet, that! I shall lay my money on the worthy Teetotaler,
who is third in line for the honor, behind The Mule and Wallbanger. Of courssse, I
mean no offense to these two fine warriorsss... but I dearly love placing my money to
show!
In the exchanging of challenges this cycle, it seems that Whiplash hassss
received the most challengesss, while Kill Humanoidsss were being avoided throughout
the arena circuit--with the Bearssss leading in this avoidance! (I am sure at this
point Zontani would insssult Kill Humanoidsss' hygiene or the Bearsss' courage, but
alasss! I lack Zontani'ssss sharp wit.)
I sssshall wrap thisss up. Farewell, good Lordssss, until the next I am called
to sssserve you!
Skek

PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE
Sly -- I see... And exactly how many attempts have you made to face the Chaos Spawn
that you know how difficult they are to defeat? None? And how many times have you
fought any of the top 20 warriors lately? None? So, what, exactly, do you know about
what you stupidly shot your mouth off on last turn? Nothing? Until you have some
clue about what you are saying, I'd suggest you fall silent. I face the cream of
Alastari every tournament and win far more than I lose. What enjoyment is there in
fighting the same warriors turn after turn after turn, when there is a world to
conquer, or at least new experiences to face? I happen to enjoy the Gate. While
learning is greatly decreased there and death eliminates the chance of learning
completely, it is fun not knowing what to expect each turn. If the so-called "real
competition" would like to fight me, they can wait for the tournaments or make an
appointment, I'll be happy to oblige. -- Vengeance

All -- I'm trying to find information on an ex-manager. Does anyone have the last-
known address for Jim Jarvis aka Master J? He fought the teams The Unknowns and the
Unknowns II among others. He was notably in arena 12, Riztab, and stopped playing
around 1991 or 92. If you can help out, diplo Talon Volksie at Eagles Claw, DM 40 and
104. Thanks.

LAST WEEK'S FIGHTS
1) TEETOTALER (38-326) (158-67-11,2) of MISCELLANEOUS II entered into the Gate and
into the steaming jungle. The stars above him blackened as a foul, and familiar,
shape slid menacingly out of the sky--the dreaded QUETZIQUATL! For four minutes
did the valiant Lord Protector do battle, but at length, the fire-breath and foul
claws of the demon set him low. TEETOTALER's body was recovered by other stalwart
Gateway explorers.
2) VENGEANCE (9-2052) (127-32-19,3) of ANGELS OF PAIN set forth into the Gate, where,
under the dripping trees, he challenged T'ZEEXIQAL to battle. For six minutes did
demon and Lord Protector exchange blows, but VENGEANCE, well honored Gateway
champion, savagely slew T'ZEEXIQAL in the end.
3) DELBAETH (6-978) (133-80-2,5) of GOLDEN HOSTE entered into the Gate seeking glory
and honor for Alastari when he was confronted by the demon TZENORI, who attacked him
without warning. DELBAETH was slaughtered by TZENORI in one minute, and his body
was recovered by Skek.
4) FALSTAFF (37-899) (128-66-3,6) of ZIG ZAG stepped through the Gate into the strange
jungles of the demons where he confronted XIXZOK. For two minutes they fought,
sending blood and ichor flying; and in the end FALSTAFF assassinated XIXZOK.
5) OPUS (1-1526) (129-74-3,20) of ZIG ZAG followed his comrades into the Gate and
set out to make his own way through, exploring the uncharted territories further
upriver than our Lord Protectors have thus far gone. There he was attacked by a
WATER DRAGON; the Lord Protector feared not, for he had been briefed on the weaknesses
of these creatures. Four minutes did he test the creature, and at length butchered
it.
6) BHURAK (60-1081) (67-50-3,54) of CCE took up the call of the Gate and dove deep
into the nearly impenetrable jungles, where he was ambushed by a demon called the
FANGS OF FIRE, who assaulted him mercilessly. BHURAK was butchered by FANGS OF FIRE
in a one minute; his body was recovered by the Companions.
7) LOUIS (30-1370) (80-89-4,75) of THE DAMNED set forth through the Gateway and into
the jungles with his Companions, seeking demons of chaos--he was not disappointed
there, for from the canopies came a SHADOW BEING, who fell on him with bloodthirsty
intent. LOUIS was assassinated by the SHADOW BEING in less than a minute.
8) BILLY THE KID (13-1386) (97-80-3,86) of EXCELLENT 'VENTURE followed his Companions

The Second Mordanti Alliance Olympics
This is to announce the coming of the 2nd Mordanti Alliance Olympics. This is
where the alliances compete against each other for ten turns, and one alliance will
stand on top. There will also be honorable mentions for the Best Team and Best
Warrior.
The rules are simple...
1) Maintain the highest win/loss ratio of all the alliances. It doesn't matter how
many warriors you fight, or if you fight each turn, just as long as you maintain the
highest winning percentage.
2) Each alliance must have representatives present for at least eight of the ten
turns to qualify for the top prize. Individuals may show up only once or twice, but
the alliance must be present for eight rounds out of ten.
3) Registration is simple: E-mail me (SALLAIN@juno.com), or diplo me (at Wind Storm
DM-1) to pre-register, or register late by announcing in the personal ads on the turn
you arrive. You will be added in as of that turn. Registration is free.
4) First turn is turn 305, due on January 4, 1997. All team and warrior records will
be recorded at that time (or time of late entry). Team performance will be monitored
from that point forward. Participants who already have a team in Mordant will not
have to get a new team, and new teams will not be at a disadvantage (last year's
winners were led by an Unchartered team).
The 1st Mordanti Alliance Olympics was fun, and competition was stiff. The Ivory
League took the enchilada with 56.8% and a 54-41-1 record. Will they be able to
retain their title? Who will step forward to challenge them? Is there anybody who
CAN challenge them? Come to Mordant DM-1 and find out!!
Lord Xiang
Olympic Chairman
FLKC
P.S. If you are not part of an alliance, and wish to participate, you may register as
an independent, and fight as an individual.
The Effects Coordination
Coordination has long been ruled as having no effect on a warrior. I have
noticed a few observations that may be the cause of certain coordination levels. So I
decided to write this article to give the general DM populace something to ponder.
Below is the coordination table:
Cooridination = SP + DF
06 - 16 = Clumsy
17 - 20 = Slightly Uncoordinated
21 - 27 = Normal
28 - 31 = Highly Coordinated
32 - 39 = Very Highly Coordinated
40 - 42 = Marvel of Fighting Coordination
Since I run a lot of bashers that have a clumsy rating most of the time, I
noticed a few things that happens to them and not the high coordination warriors I
have. Most people don't have clumsy warriors, save some bashers and TPs, so it may
not be paid that much attention too.
First thing that I have noticed is that a clumsy warrior seems to drop his weapon
more often than higher coordination warriors. So I think that maybe he has a higher
chance to do this than normally coordinated warriors.
Second, I noticed that clumsy warriors have harder time trying to quick draw
their back-up weapon, causing them to fumble around trying to get it.
Third is that the clumsy warrior also is slower to get up after he has been
knocked down. It may also influence the roll on whether you get knocked down or not,
along with other factors.
These things aren't as noticeable the higher the coordination becomes. That's
probably why a lot of people don't place any value on coordination. At the higher
levels of the game there aren't any clumsy rated warriors, so coordination is noticed.
You can still get knocked down, lose your weapon, and draw your back-up quick, but the
odds are more in your favor with a higher coordination in my opinion.
Well, may joy and happiness be with you. If you would like to chat , I can be
reached at 103260.3347@compuserve.com
You may diplo me at LORDS OF THE ABYSS, in Dm 11, or any of the JOKER'S WILDS
scattered about.

THE NUMEROLOGY OF DUELMASTERS
by The Ghost of Eldrid
Character Generation
Hello, I am the Ghost of Eldrid, and I have an important message that directly
effects how well your team may do in the future. Some managers will not take this
important article seriously (some people don't believe in ghosts, either), and their
records will suffer for it. I have played Duelmasters for four years and searched
through all of my old turns and painstakingly researched every important fact in this
article, and I have discussed my conclusions with about ten different managers (named
managers such as Phido, Doctor LeGrand, Silk, Russ, and Biff Frothingslosh) who all
agree on the validity of my arguments. The results of my research are both startling
and magnificent. THERE IS NUMEROLOGY IN DUELMASTERS!!! Whether it was programmed in
or it exists on a higher plane, it matters not. IT EXISTS!!! And I plan to share
some of its amazing secrets with you, starting with character creation.
Rememebr in the realm of character generation the powers favor odd number stats.
NEVER, EVER have an even number on stats, except, of course, for size, which,
obviously should be even since everyone can tell what size your character is by his
description in the fight. Do you want people thinking your warrior is odd? I should
hope not!! But in case you decide to keep your odd warrior, DO NOT MAKE ANY OTHER
STATS EVEN!! Write a letter to the commission stating that you forgo the rights to
the last point and you want it to be sacrificed to the benefit of Alastari.
Always start adding points to wit and will first. Either make them 13, 17, or
21. Why? Under 12 wit is worthless, as any good manager will tell you. A 13
understandably gives your opponent bad luck, a 17 has the ever-lucky "7" in it, and 21
is BLACKJACK, and you get twice the number of winnings you would normally get. Why
not 15 or 19? Is it not obvious to everyone that 15 is unlucky? The only President
of the United States not married was the 15th, James Buchanan (who?). Lincoln was
shot on April 15th, and the clincher... my brother was born on the 15th of May. If
these "coincidences" don't prove to you that 15 is unlucky, I don't know what will.
19 is an evil number. It tries to deceive you into thinking it is better than 17, but
actually, it is an "11" with a small zero placed on the second pole, and we all know
that a zero is nothing. So what do we get for our extra eight points? In effect,
something smaller than nothing.
Next, make every other stat odd. Add the other points to make the style you
want. Deftness is the key to character generation.
Deftness (min)
5 to make a basher (ST 13+)
7 for a lunger
9 for a striker
11 for a wall of steel (ST 11+, WL 17+)
13 for a parry lunge (ST 11+), slasher (SP 11+), parry-strike, and total
parries (these styles depend on the opponent's bad luck.
17 for a parry-riposte (WT 17+)
21 for an aimed blow (this style needs the double winnings)
The last thing to remember is that luck is a big factor in this game and I don't
know if you noticed, but when warriors have even ID numbers they are luckier than odd
ID characters. Look at the best warriors in Primus: Wallbanger, Donatello, Epitaph,
Chaos Knight, Villiage Idiot, Silverflash, Khorga Khan, Jake the Snake, Sly, Max,
Stormbringer, Teetotaler, Raphael, Selleque, Kri, Constance, Hangover, Eve, and Sam
Spade. All have even-numbered IDs. Now you say, "But Yoda and Necron-99 both have
odd IDs, and they are the best aimed blows of the game!" Yes, but they are AIMED
BLOWS and they are members of an odd style, so of course they do better with odd
numbers. So remember if you want your warriors to be best in all Alastari someday,
Dark Arena all your odd-numbered characters, unless of course they are aimed blows.
Good luck, and may the numbers fall your way.
