A form of this list was posted elsewhere, and it caused quite a few
comments. So, I thought I would rank the top 20 warriors here in our
esteemed cake walk of an arena, and see what you guys & gals had to say.
These are in order, but it is only one man's opinion.

It will be interesting to see how these warriors finish in the upcoming
tournament. Hopefully, for my sake, they won't be 100% accurate, but I'll
settle for 90%. The top nine should TV pretty much all the time. From ten
on down, it gets iffy; sometimes they will, sometimes they won't.

RAMBLINGS FROM WITHIN THE KEEP
Hello, Gateway gladiators. It's I, Oscar, here to report on this round in the
Kaikwok Gateway.
Psycho Scientist, our reigning Captain of the Gate, challenged Hawk for this
round's title fight. Psycho quickly showed us why he's the Captain of the Gate; Hawk
wasn't quite up to the task. Congratulations, Psycho, on yet another victory.
This round, Teetotaler and Vengeance were the only warriors brave enough to go on
patrol and face the local denizens. Unfortunately, Vengeance was the only one to come
back alive, as Teetotaler was slaughtered by a Being of Lights. Vengeance slew an
Invisible. How he saw it to manage to slay it I don't quite understand. Good job,
Vengeance.
Not surprisingly, Thundr + Litening was the most avoided team. This time,
Superior Forces avoided them the most. Doc, you definitely get the prize for the
longest-standing most-avoided team, as far as I'm concerned.
Schnapp's Addiction of Mighty Big Scnapps was the most challenged warrior.
Schnapp's Addiction ended up taking the challenge of Koji Shikeru of Superior Forces,
and beat him for his troubles. You go, girl!
The biggest upset this round was when Grandpa Cleatus of Black Bulldogs (#132)
fought Dave of Her Cats (#68) on a random matchup and beat the socks off of Dave. I
think maybe Dave didn't belong up there, so maybe it wasn't really that much of an
upset.
In the top eleven, Executioner (#10) challenged Cheshire Cat (#5) and knocked the
Cat down hard (but didn't execute him). Don't let anyone tell you that cats always
fall on their feet, 'cause they don't. Maimed (#12) challenged Ferndok (#8) and beat
him mightily, moving back up into the top eleven. Donatello (#2) fought Tawny (#20)
and lost!, falling out of the top eleven for the first time in a long time (longer
than I can count without at least taking my shoes off). Nice work, Tawny. Delbaeth
(#9) fought Baron Cockroach (#22) and squished him. Nasty bugs. Sly (#6) TV
challenged Ta'ra (#7) and pummelled the daylights out of her. Psycho (#1) beat Hawk
(#11), and Teetotaler (#3) and Vengeance (#4) Challenged the Gate, and that's all of
'em.
Angels of Pain remains our top-ranked team, with an outstanding 82.0% W-L record.
Neon's crew follows with 73.1%, followed by Doc Steele's minions at 70.7%.
At Neon's request, here is a list of the Gateway warriors with one or more
Archmasters and Blademasters. It is current as of the time of the AD freeze (three

Some glaring omissions from last turn's Mercenary list (that's a more PC term than
"whore"): Falstaff, Opus, King Crabs, Scarlet Skink, as well as the more recent
discoveries of Toe Jam, Orange Hell, G.I. Joe, Silverflash, Sqorpian, and Patience.

Neon -- I like to keep it simple--a mercenary warrior is any warrior that was not
rolled up on the owning manager's account. Just like people try to justify
downchallenging in certain situations, you will have managers who think warrior
transfers are ok in certain instances. I don't really care--I think that their are a
lot more important things that need to be addressed in DM than this issue. When I
beat Gypsy Moth, it'll be like beating both you and Doc LeGrand at the same time! --

Neon -- You didn't ask me, but here is your response anyway. Warrior granting/selling
/loaning is not a black-and-white issue. In general, the younger the warrior is
adopted, the less grievous the injury. Giving away rollups (actually rolled up with
bonuses or not) is clearly not a big deal. I actually don't have a problem with any
warrior tranfer before Primus/Gateway induction, because in the long run, 99.9% of
them will never be a factor at the end of the game (which is where the time factor is
all important). I have never liked the transfer of "legends" -- these are the
original whore warriors (Teetotaler, Gypsy Moth, etc.). HOWEVER... there is an
interesting point here, and it came to me while pondering the fact that Donatello is
run by RSI (or so you say). Should these LEGENDS be retired, never to be seen again?
The more I think about it, the more I think they should be available to test your
mettle against. Maybe the war against the Gate beasts can be won, and instead we can
Gate challenge "the Hall of Fame". And maybe people will voluntary send their
warriors there. And maybe monkeys will fly out of my butt. -- PUG
Great turn, Talcama! We still remain the dominant arena here in Gateway. Not only do
we have nearly twice as many active warriors as the next nearest arena (15 compared to
9), we also maintain a consistently higher winning percentage. That makes it
meaningful to be ranked as the top warrior from Talcama. -- Psycho Scientist
Doc Steele, et al. -- Tell you what. I'll be sure all these up-n-comers have at least
one greybeard to gauge their skills by. Psycho will take on whoever you've got. All
you have to do is get them within range. I'm always willing to show you just how far

Neon -- I would like to clarify my position on whore warriors. A warrior that is run
by anyone other than the manager who ran the warriors for it's first fight is a whore.
The degree to which it bothers me increases directly with the FE the warrior has when
it is taken over by the new manager.
That being said, I also tend to divide Duelmasters into two separate games. I
use Primus induction as the dividing line. Below Induction the game moves at a good
pace. Warriors develop and anyone can be competitive in a reasonable time frame. One
can TC Rookies on his second full day as a DM player. And that same manager could TC
Eligibles within a few years. While above Induction the training slows to such a pace
that it is now many years before one can even TV. And if a TC is not out of reach it
is perhaps a decade away. I have been playing Duelmasters for 16 years. Tarad from
my original team has been running all that time except for about 3 years off when I
was not playing Advanced DM. Tarad stands at 25-25-7-25-25-17-21 after 13 years!! To
buy and sell a warrior with that much history is a far cry from buying a warrior with
20 FE.
Another reason whore warriors are so heinous in Gateway is there is no end to the
game. The _only_ turn over in the game is when managers retire and take their
warriors with them. There are about 25 TV spots available in Gateway. When Deke
stopped playing Dm a few of those spots opened up to the rest of us. But for $500.00
you bought Gypsy Moth and now that spot is filled again.
All that being said I only ask at this point that you remember your attitude
toward this practice in the future when the shoe is on the other foot. I have decided
that when I am done with this game I very well may sell my warriors. I see no reason
why I should be concerned for those I leave behind when I quit since by then I will
have had to battle every whore-run legend in the game to get to the top.
Before you make any more petty veiled insults at my recent TCs in the Freshman I
will clarify that as well. A couple of years ago, out of frustration in giving up too
much competitive advantage, I decided to utilize whore-warriors below the Induction
line. I have used a few to establish my stable in Andorak and twice I have TCed with
warriors not originally my own. I freely admit they are whore TCs. However, if you
refuse to admit the difference between my running a few warriors given to me by my
closest friends and your spending $500.00 for Gypsy Moth, then you are only deluding
yourself. Piggin Jedi TCed at 50 FE. I started running him in 69 at 10 FE. And
Aaaaaaaaa? is the clone-father of Dark Prophet, so I felt a certain affinity with him
as well.
Although I am very attached to each warrior and would love to see them battle the
legends one day here in Gateway, I will run neither beyond Induction due to the

game in arena 9 in Nov 84 and had a blast with it through the years. I only stopped
play when I didn't have the cash. I'd love to see the old mgr's come back but if
whoring is the only thing that can bring back warriors like Epitaph, Stormbringer,
Flashback, Khorga Khan, Adonis, Max, Stonewall, and Buckwheat Whitefolk then BRING ON

All -- I manage M'Lady Macaw and Scarlet Skink and bought them Doc LeGrand so I guess
in most eyes I am a whore manager. I didn't change names so to trick other managers.
I haven't issued a challenge. Here is the reason I bought and run these two:
1. Doc would never have played them, so why not let someone give them a
chance? Macaw is going to be good. Skink won't, but I enjoy the challenge.
2. To have fun.
I don't see the problem with running bought warriors. Remember that if these warriors
were so good, why weren't they being run before? I would think that the Gateway
managers would enjoy having more warriors to increase the competition around here.
But I guess most of you just want your easy wins and smaller Gateway tournies. I do
see some points that some raised in the past but it's a game, people, so let everyone
