In all the excitement of the fireworks watching we managed to forget a loaf of bread in the oven for several hours.

It looks like it's pretty carbonized (all the H20 have been driven off from the carbohydrates, leaving mostly carbon (and various minerals) behind, just like ye old-time charcoal burners used to do).

It isn't totally converted though, as you can see from the bottom.

Ideas:

  • we might use this for making powdered carbon
  • we could dissect it to see if it tels us anything about heat flow inside baking bread
  • we could try talking someone into eating some
  • we could try using it as a water filter
  • we could just keep it around to show people because we can't afford a stuffed alligator
