We've built a new launch controller!

To launch a rocket you:

  1. Put on the safety key wrist band (so only you can activate the circuit)
  2. Clip the leads to the igniter, making sure they don't touch each other or the launch pad construction blast shield (so the only circuit is through the igniter.
  3. Go back to the launch controller and make sure every is clear and knows to stay clear
  4. Insert the launch key dangling from the wrist strap (leave the strap on). This closes the first switch and should (if you hooked things up correctly) cause the LED to light. If not, go to the Troubleshooting section.
  5. Start your count down. When you say "1" press and hold the not very big red button.
  6. Your rocket should launch within a second or two. Hold for at least 10 seconds.

IF YOU GET THIS FAR AND THE ROCKET DOESN'T LAUNCH

  1. Pull the safety out, and stop pressing the button.
  2. Warn everyone to stand back.
  3. Replace the safety:
    • If the LED comes on, the circuit is still complete, and you likely had a short. In this case, approach cautiously, and look for crossed wires, smoke, or any other aberrant phenomena.
    • If the LED does not come on, then either a wire disconnected, the rocket will go off sometime in the next 30~ seconds, or the igniter was a dud. In this case, wait 45-60 seconds, then approach cautiously, and determine the problem in more detail.

Trouble shooting (LED doesn't come on when safety is inserted)

Only follow these steps if the LED never came on. See above if it came on and the rocket didn't light.

  1. Check all connections.
    • Is everything attached that is supposed to be?
    • Are the bolts on the side still holding their wires (inside and out)?
    • Are the internal solders still connected?
    • Did you hook up the battery correctly?
  2. If all of the above are yes, but the light still doesn't come on, remove the LED and the battery, then test each of them. If either or both are not functional, replace them.
  3. If you have done both steps above, and it still doesn't work, just go buy a long fuse and some matches.
  4. If you cannot light the fuse due to sudden localized wind or rain events, find a corner, enter the fetal position, and call an exorcist. If the LED begins glowing despite not being connected to the battery, the rocket begins emitting evil laughter while floating around the room, or the safety cannot be removed due to the eldritch tentacles holding it in place, skip immediately to this step.
