About a year ago we collected broken toys and appliances and stuff for some 3rd & 4th graders to have a take apart day. One of the things was a dead microwave oven. We didn't test what the problem was, we just cut the cord so they couldn't plug it in. But it turned out they weren't able to do anything much with it because (duh!) it has security screws.
So we spliced the cord back on (being careful to make sure the ground, neutral & hot leads were all correctly paired & connected). We tested it and found that:
