We have to have fins for our rocket, so we decided to make it out of the best material possible: index cards and match sticks!
Ok, probably not the best material possible, but the best of the materials we had handy at the exact moment we decided to try to make rocket fins.
They might work. And if they don't, they won't work for some reason and then we'll know not to make that mistake again. So we'll make a different mistake next time. And so on. Unless they work, and we're done.
We decided to fold them. We decided on this design:
The first step was to fold diagonally:
Then, we make it a crisper crease using the bone folder. (we do this to all steps, but I will leave it out) The result of crisping the fold is this:
Next we folded the left-over rectangle up:
Then we folded the rectangle back the other way, inside the triangle, and folded the corner flap down:
That gave us a triangle with extra bits inside:
Then we opened it up and measured 4cm from the side(s) that are going to wind up glued to the rocket body:
Tucking this bit in gave us the shape we wanted.
We then glued it and clipped 2 edges:
We then did a production line:
The final step was realizing they were too heavy, and wouldn't work, so we needed to find a different way of doing it.
