For stability a rocket needs a nose of some sort. For most cases a blunt or rounded nose is probably better aerodynamically, but pointy noses are for some reason more popular ('cause they look cooler?).

They sometimes get called "nose cones" but cones are actually pretty bad for both aerodynamics and aesthetics.
