KNO3 8g + powdered sugar (sucrose) 4g, powder mixed (stirred), then made into a paste with ~5g of methanol

This was the same formulation as test 0 but wet with methanol and allowed to dry. The reference formula involves multiple steps of grinding and melting the mixture to produce a paste. The idea was to use the methanol to make it "stick together" and get some of the benefit of the melting but without having to heat it.

After drying for about an hour we tested it; it burned, but slowly. There did not appear to be any methanol left in the mixture, but it may have been trapped inside, and (by evaporating) be stealing heat from the reaction.

We let it dry for two days (in low humidity so that it wouldn't suck up too much water from the air). It burned better, but still not as well as test 0. No idea why.
