Days of the Week

The Empire of Lirith Kai uses an official seven-day week, as we do. The names of the days, starting with the equivalent of Monday, are: Luradi, Garendi, Semdi, Tirhadi, Komindi, Nilsardi, and Varnsadi. Varnsadi is usually a day of rest, although not necessarily a day of worship. The days are named after the first seven Emperors of Lirith Kai, the semi-mythical rulers of the Harin Dynasty: Luradan the Uniter, Garen the Peacemaker, Sameniar the Just, Tirhadan the Tall, Komin Grimhand, Nilsaran the Builder, and Varinsan the Wise.

In the northern part of the An-Kiu Valley, one may sometimes hear the days of the seven-day week given other names. This is the Pelang System; its use is commoner in rural areas than in the towns and cities of the north.

Other systems may be found in local use around the Empire, usually by restricted and insular cultural groups, as for example the Tzaltakans of Simtakka Province, who use a ten-day week, the Hallani of that same province who mark a twelve-day period, or the peculiar system of the Jathkars of the Delta who have no week as such but individually name each day of their twenty-day months.
