Deities of the Minority Races of Lirith Kai

The non-Adantri races of Lirith Kai have their own religions, of course, although many have adopted the worship of Mantor--after all, he has done very well by the Adantri, so maybe he'll do as well for them... I don't really have time to go into these right now, but mentions will be found here and there, in the descriptions of the different races or in the province files.

The Gods of the Hladani People of Simtakka Province:

Currently, only Haldanas, Saladansa, Lasildas, Gilandas, and Morildas have any prominence.

Gilandas: one of the twin sons of Saladansa, by Haldanas; an important god of the Hallani race of Simtakka Province. His followers are called Gilandi. Morildas is his twin brother.

Gilandi: the followers of Gilandas among the Hallani of Simtakka Province. Gilandas is a peaceful type of god, and his followers aim at what we would probably call "Hallani studies." They want to go back to the "old ways and ancient virtues," which in their case means farming, friendly trading, and attempts to revive as much of the old cultural pattern as can be discovered. They are proud of their farming skills, their irrigation systems, their weaving, the way they built their old (and some new) villages to make the best use of the site, and so forth. All worthy attributes, but not very dynamic. Of those people who have not gone over to Mantor, Gilandas draws mostly from the older ones. Sacrifices to Gilandas are of grain, cloth, flowers, the singing and dancing of children, and so on--charming and gentle, and if the Tzaltakans were just arriving today, the Gilandi would go under just as fast as the old Hallani did before.

Haldanas: the senior of the remaining gods of the Hallani of Simtakka Province. He is the Hallani creator-god and patron of that race. He has no full-time priests and does not receive blood sacrifices of any sort. In times of stress he counsels patient submission to one's lot, saying that help will come from the outside. He is not terribly popular with the more `modern' Hallani. Gilandas is the son of Haldanas on his wife Saladansa.

Lasildas: Hallani god of flocks, brother of Saladansa. It may be that he is not an original member of the pantheon, but definite information on this point is lacking. Morildas is the son of Lasildas on his sister Saladansa.

Morildas: one of the twin sons of Saladansa, by her brother Lasildas; an important god of the Hallani race of Simtakka Province. Gilandas is his twin brother. The followers of Morildas have three main sects: the Mordani, the Morahaldi, and the Morildi. If he was part of the original Hallani pantheon, he was probably a trickster type.

Morahaldi: one of the main cults of Morildas among the Hallani of Simtakka Province. The Morahaldi see Morildas as a sort of junior Mantor; they don't seem to have decided what to do about the Tzaltakans, but they are trying to make Adantri-like warriors out of the Hallani, with little success so far. Young members of this sect, which is fairly popular in the city of Simtakka, "sacrifice" vows and "noble acts."

Mordani: one of the main cults of Morildas among the Hallani of Simtakka Province. To them, the god remains primarily a trickster: they will consider it sufficient if someone else can be induced by them to beat up on their ancient enemies, the Tzaltakans, and they are constantly on the lookout for a chance to get the Tzaltakans into trouble with the Adantri government. This group "sacrifices" money.

Morildi: the third and least public of the three main cults of Morildas among the Hallani of Simtakka Province. The Morildi see their god as a trickster warrior--a sneaky, underhanded, success-at-any-cost type. They justify this attitude (they are a decent lot among themselves) by saying that the Tzaltakans aren't really human, they're the spawn of demons, and anything is fair against them. This is the most militant group, and the most violent. This is also the only Hallani sect that engages in blood sacrifice. Normally, this means rabbits, pigeons, maybe goats...but a Tzaltakan would be considered the best possible offering...

Saladansa: the second, younger, wife of the god Haldanas; goddess of fertile fields worshipped by the Hallani of Simtakka Province. All farming now comes under her authority (she was possibly more specialized in the past), and she receives the respect and worship of the farmers of that race. She is given offerings of bread and honey in the spring, and first fruits of the fields as they occur. Lasildas is her brother. Gilandas and Morildas are her sons.
