Non-HumansThere are no significant non-human populations in the Empire of Lirith Kai. There are elves, dwarves, and `orkish people' in small numbers in the lands to the north of Lirith Kai, but they have little to do with the Empire, and both sides like it that way. Such non-humans as do live within Lirith Kai are treated as normal people and their differences ignored if they make any effort to fit themselves into the local scene, but even then they will be regarded as a little strange... Conspicuously non-human people are not regarded as `exotic and attractive' by most Adantri but rather as `strange and distasteful', elves are not looked up to as superior beings, and dwarves are not automatically assumed to be better craftsmen than humans, nor the `orkish' people more brutish and violent. The average Adantri is more likely to pity them because they aren't human than to admire them for being different.. The only province in Lirith Kai with a known non-human population of noticeable size is Tirian, in the north. About five percent of the population of this province is elvish or part elvish, but they do not live in the city of Lyn Tirian or in the towns big enough to get marked on the maps, and they do not live in any obviously different way than do their fully human neighbors. They are as tall as the Northern Adantri, much more slender, and noticeably darker of skin. There is a tribe living near or just beyond the border here called the Horoukha; they are big-boned and black-haired, have an enormous capacity for beer, tend to be somewhat short-tempered, to react violently to sneers, and are unusually strong for their size. Visitors from Alastari call them orcs, but to the Adantri this term is meaningless; they are simply `the people who call themselves the Horoukha.' There are about a dozen dwarves resident in Lyn Tirian, where they engage in trade, organizing the flow of goods between the southern part of the Empire and their own far-northern home. They are a red-bearded folk noticeably shorter than the average Adantri.
