WagesAs to wages, the common laborer who makes a mejimina for a day's work is doing very well indeed. A skilled craftsman may make as much as four or even five mejiminas a day, especially if his type of skill is much in demand locally and his skill is great. Arena standby fighters are paid a mejimina a day to be on standby, a mejilara (ten minas) if they fight, and a gold quarter or kanokira (twenty-five minas) if they win.
