Garden Tower Wine: a superb wine of unknown source served only at the Garden Tower Restaurant in Chan Hisar, Chan-Kerang Province. The owners of the restaurant (it has been in the same family for several generations) guard the secret of their wine jealously and will not disclose the source to anyone for any inducement so far offered. The wine is heavy, almost syrupy but spicy rather than sweet, and has a deep golden color.

Ghera, Lady: an earth goddess worshipped in Pelang.

The canyon is about 400 feet deep at its head and close to 1000 feet deep at its mouth.

Grandfather Mountain: the mountain immediately behind/west of Darin Korang (capital of Dakorin Province) on which the suburb of Daranang is located.

Grass, the: a local name for the Plains District of Pelang.

Gray Bones: the name applied to a square mile or more of natural outcrops and stones placed for some inscrutable reason by men. It is about ten miles from the town of Chan Hisar in Chan-Kerang Province. The original purpose of this site is not known. Scholars deplore the effects of treasure hunters who have dug in the area from time to time, but the oldest records in the province include a plan and several drawings which show that it was as confusing and incomprehensible in earlier centuries as it is now. Many of the rocks have inscriptions on them, but the script used has not been identified or deciphered; figures carved with the inscriptions, and also separately, are in a style unknown to specialists: it is not found elsewhere in Lirith Kai, according to all available reports. Some treasure hunters have exhibited small quantities of gold objects which they claim to have found in this area: coins of a sort otherwise unknown mixed with those of several very ancient kingdoms; personal ornaments set with stones resembling jasper, lapis lazuli, malachite, and with great pearls; cups, bowls, and plates elaborately chased with geometric and stylized floral motifs, a few daggers with blades of an unidentified bluish metal, and extremely peculiar stone figurines.

Graysilk Horses: a minor breed or line developed by the Chanar family at their estate near Daiyla Kiv. The horses are tall (sixteen to seventeen hands), gray, and elegant, spirited without being hard to handle, and are considered eminently suited for riding in town and in the hunt; they are not used as cavalry horses.

Great Bend of the Fatebringer: name given to the land encompassed by the Stormwater Loop of the Fatebringer River.

Great Fork of the An-Kiu: the junction of the An-Kiu and Fatebringer rivers. Each river is at this point already a major waterway; the junction is approximately equivalent to the joining of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers.

Great Hunt: a hunt having as its quarry a beast capable of killing a man; often the quarry is one which has established a habit of homicide. The key feature that separates a Great Hunt from an ordinary hunt is that the hunters are in nearly as great a danger--and sometimes more!--as the quarry.

Great West Road: the major trade route that runs from Dal Shang on the east side of the Empire across the An-Kiu Valley to Simtakka on the west and then beyond across the Western Plains, ending finally at Tezamatli on the Hollow Sea. It is considered to be a continuation of the Great East Road of Alastari. The West Road is paved and well-maintained, constantly patrolled, and crosses all rivers on bridges (at least, it does inside the Empire). It is suitable for wheeled vehicles.

Greening Day: the day of the spring equinox, which falls between the third and fourth months of the year without belonging to either. In most places, it is a holiday.
