Jadai: a wild boar with a particularly nasty temper and a hatred for men that is found in the Jade Panther Hills and the Han Torra Khang. It grows as large as a pony.

Jade Bell Hounds: a breed developed by the Sarnish family and raised at their Imperial Heart estate. They are used in the Great Hunt and are noted for their voices. The dogs are of moderate size, with smooth short coats of gold or tan and long pendant ears.

Jade Eye Society: a nationally known warrior society; see under warrior societies.

Jadeway: a poor wagon road that runs up the Djarno Valley from Nalzin to Dinal Jiro; consider it class D. It is open most of the year but heavy snows will render it impassable, as does the normal spring thaw.

Jadir: the people of the Jade Panther Hills.

Jambiri River: the river which flows from the Genarit Hills to the Southern Ocean, reaching the ocean at Kala Jambu. It is about 1000 miles long, and for more than half its length (the downstream half) it is a broad, slow stream, deep and very muddy. No part of the Jambiri is presently within the borders of the Empire.

Jewel of Ratan: another name for the Gourrah Valley.

Jezal Kiniar: a "lost city" in Kiniar Province.

Jiakana: a harvest goddess (probably pre-Drahnoran) worshipped in eastern Minho Province.

Jianlu: a medium-sized mountain feline with a spotted coat, found in the Jade Panther Hills and the Han Torra Khang. It can be a very destructive predator on the flocks of the area. In some cases an individual will develop a taste for human meat--in which case it will preferentially kill children, as being more manageable.

Ji Kana Plain: a section of the An-Kiu River Valley in Minho Province, on the east side of the river and west of the Jina Kabir Hills. It lies between the Kinsang and Jinzal rivers and is gently rolling farmland.

Jina Kabir Hills: a region of hills or low mountains at the south end of the Du Dizar Hills; it is in Minho and Danath provinces and separates the An-Kiu Valley from the Karndiz Steppe. The Jina Kabirs are debatable territory, sometimes a part of the Empire and sometimes independent; they are very rich in minerals. Copper, silver, and gold are the most commonly mined minerals in these hills, along with turquoise, agate, rose and smoky quartz, and obsidian.

Jinara Deer: the deer of the Jina Kabir Hills in Minho. They are an unusually tall breed, lean and very fast, with short reddish sandy coats and black many-branched horns. They are normally solitary, coming together only in the autumn breeding season (when they are likely to be extremely short-tempered). Occasionally a buck will fail to shed his horns in the spring and the bases will become infected, enlarged and thickened. Such an animal experiences a complete personality change, shuns the company of its own kind at all seasons, and frequently turns killer; some rogue jinara have gored more than a score of horses before they are hunted down and killed.

Jinterang Trail: a trail, marginally a cart road, that runs from Ilrin Ti on the White Jade River to the Silotian Way by way of Jinar and Lona Terang. It is basically a class D road, although the local people may attempt to persuade travelers that it is actually better than that.

Jolgera: the chief goddess of the Drahnore Pantheon, held to be the equal of Skoldra. She is called the "Mother-of-All" and may simply be another face of Gheal. She is considered to be the patron of mothers and the guardian of the land itself. The High Priestess is called the Harvest of Jolgera.

Jomaka: the chief god of the Kojoka people of Hadarana and Sahala provinces; a warrior/herdsman god.

Joma Society: a warrior society of the Kojoka people of Hadarana and Sahala provinces.

Justiciar: a semi-retired high priest or abbot.
