Ilnkanar Hills: a group of volcanic hills, or volcanicly modified hills, in Kiniar Province between the Kiniar Plain on west, the Kanar Steppe on the east, the Dzo-Djadal Hills to the north, and the Hurin Hills on the south. They are very rugged and broken and have a bad, if unspecific, reputation.

Imhavri: a mother/earth/fertility goddess worshipped in Alhodhri, consort of the war god H'Doran and mother of the shepherd god Dharim.

Imperial Heart: province in north-central Lirith Kai, at the Great Fork of the An-Kiu where it is joined by the Fatebringer. The capital city of Daiyla Kiv is located in this province.

Imperial Reserve: a large area of wetlands in East Aryai, part of the Lakha estate lands, which is mostly left fallow. The Emperors have occasionally used it as a hunting preserve, for waterfowl.

Inspector General: an Imperial official whose duty it is to travel about the Empire and make sure that no official is shirking his proper duty or misusing the powers of his office. They are accountable only to the Emperor himself, who usually has a strong part in selecting them, and often travel incognito.

Irila: the Drahnoran goddess of love and the pleasures of the senses. The High Priestess of Irila is called the Smile of Irila.

Iron Mountains: the name locally applied to the mountainous west of Dakorin Province. The mountains are actually a part of the main chain of the Han Torra Khang; they are mined for iron.

Iron River: the river which drains Dakorin Province. The Iron River flows into the west side of the An-Kiu Delta and has three main forks; the length of the river and Middle Fork, which is the longest, is about 500 miles. The upper reaches are steep and swift-flowing, the lower and longer part of the river, where it flows through the Darkuran Basin, is broad and slow. The Iron River carries a considerable load of sediment at all times.

Ironwood: a tree found in the Tomende Hills which is noted for its extremely hard and strong wood. It is used for making the axles and spokes of cartwheels and for spear shafts. Some tribesmen of the area do not bother to fit a spearhead to such staves, simply sharpening it.

I'Skol: a subvariety of Zarlyna horses bred in the Blackrock District of Fan Zirlyn; they are chunkier in build and adept at scrambling around rocky slopes.

Izmin: emirate in northern Ratan.

Izmin Gap: the break in the Ratani Scarp through which the Silk Road descends to the level of the Karndiz Steppe; it is closed by Izmir Fort. At this point the road descends about a thousand feet in less than a mile, through a gap in the cliffs which is only 300 feet wide at its narrowest part.

Izmir Fort: the fortification across the narrowest part of the Izmin Gap.
