The Zarlan are found in Fan Zirlyn Province, mostly in the east and south part of the province where it borders on the Twisted Lands. Whether the Zarlan are in fact a separate race from the Northern Adantri, and if so where they might have come from, are subjects debated by scholars. Some claim that this people, tribe, or subrace is merely the result of normal Adantri living for generations on the edge of the Twisted Lands. Others suggest that the Zarlan are the descendants of some alien human race or group that entered Ghea through a chaos-gate in the Twisted Lands. Whatever their origin, the Zarlan are somewhat shorter than their Northern Adantri neighbors, and where the Northern Adantri have hair of a fairly dark brown, the Zarlan will have light brown or reddish hair; their eyes are usually dark; and their facial structure is blunter. Although the Zarlan share the typical Adantri love of color on their clothing, they will tend to express it in the frequent use of plaid, checked, or striped cloth rather than in elaborate embroidery. The villages of Ni Skol and Bis-Lu in Fan Zirlyn are largely Zarlan, with Ninjina and Chando being evenly mixed, and the other villages and towns mostly Adantri.
